Low vid E8600, same 1.45v limit?

I got ahold of a E8600 w/ a low vid, <1.2v
does the same "high limit" of 1.45v. apply when overclocking this one,
or do you drop it down in relation to the vid?

I know 1.45 is just what most people feel is the limit, I'm not saying I will run that
just curious as I am able to pull 4.4Ghz at 1.275 :)

The same limits are there, but 4.4GHz at 1.275 is really good. I wouldn't push it higher, but it looks like you may have the headroom.
 
1.3625v is the Intel recommended max. So I would go as high as you can take it under 1.3625v for your standard setup. If you wanted to do benchmarks etc to show great scores etc then I would use 1.45 for a short time only then go back.

eh, no, 1.45V is what Intel publishes in the data sheet as the absolute max Vcc (Vcore) and values over this will void the warranty.

One should also be concerned that the Vcc overshoot allowed is 50mV = .05 volts so to play it safe a max bios setting of 1.4V would be prudent.

Now as to how intel came up with the 1.45 volts, it is a combination of computer modeling of the voltage stress of the transistor junctions based on the technology (45nm) a deep understanding of the materials and manufactuing process used etc. to come up with a value. And they likely blew up a few cpus as well. But certainly cpus are not each and every one tested at the factory to determine if they will survive 1.45V and like overclockability your mileage may vary, Some will take more than 1.45V, none should take less to fail if the other parameters are within datasheet spec. There is also the concern of reduced life as opposed to a hard failure. So in the real world it boils down to - its your stuff do what you want. But there is a reason most of us give out the 1.45V number and feelings have nothing to do with it.
