I picked up an XFX 9600GSO Fatal1ty edition card. I am only able to get about 4100PPD out of it and I can't figure out why. I have 2 XFX 8800GS cards that give me about 4800PPD.

The stock memory clock speed is 500mhz. I tried upping it to the 800mhz the 8800's are running at and the card locked up.

When it comes to folding, clock speed of the shaders is far more important then the memory speed. I'd compare the shader clocks and see how high you can get the 9600gso to go without eue'ing.

To find the answer we need to know if this new card is mixed with other cards or in a comp alone. Also how long has this new card been running to get your ppd estimate.

I have the shaders on the 9600 and 8800's all at 1800. All the cards running 178.24 drivers on Vista 64bit. The output is lower on all 3 cards with the latest driver release. The 8800's are in one box, the 9600 in another by itself.

Are you comparing the same work units? Different work units get different PPD.

All 5506 are not the same but I assume you have been running this for say a week or more. Are you running any other instances of folding with the 9600, like smp etc. What processor etc would help. I just looked at my box with 2 9600gso and getting 3500 and 3300 with WCG running at 10 percent.

Yeah Mr Flibble, that is kind of weird, but I wouldn't sweat it :(, Everything I've been able to figure out is both cards are identical (mem clock, shaders clock, core clock, the only difference is the single vs double slot package) I have a eVGA 8800GS that gets me about 4500PpD to 4700 PpDPpD and a eVGA 9600GSO that gets me about 4400PpD to 4500 PpD. I checked both cards with the same WU. (may have been different R's, C's and G's, whatever they are, but the same WU #, the 8800GS is in a Q6600 boxen and the eVGA 9600GSO is in a E6600 boxen, both CPU's are stock at 2.4 Ghz ). ;)

ATM both cards have their shaders OC'ed to 16600 = LED # and 1620 = graph # and the fans are set to manual 80%. No matter what I do the 8800GS always gets between 100 to 200 PpD more than the 9600GSO.

The upside is the Evga 9600GSO is "double slot" and it runs cooler than the "single slot" eVGA 8800GS. Ambient 21c to 24c, 8800GS = core 53c to 56c , 9600GSO = 49c to 51c. (temps are taken with both cards GPU2ing 24/7 and with eVGA's Precision program )

The only a suggestion I can think of is make sure your FahCore_11.exe is locked to affinity core #3 in your task manager (if your running WinXP, I don't know about VISTA or Linux)
That way your "CPU usage history" should be pegged at 100% for core #3 and the other core/cores will be just idle. I use a Q6600 for the eVGA 8800GS and my cores #0, #1 and #2 are affinity locked to core #0,#1, #2 to run the WCG program and core #3 to run the F@H GPU2 program. (once again task manager says = 100% for all four cores) :D

Folding and WCGing for the CURE

I'm to poor for quads, stuck with duals. I am running the uni-pro client on the comp with the 9600 that comp has plenty of headroom. I.m stying to get the SMP client working on it but so far no luck.

I'm no where near an expert, but I don't believe there's anything wrong with a "dual core". I know for a fact my two E6600's are "still clicking" with the best of them. The only reason I mentioned the affinity on a quad was because after a rare reboot I'd forget to manually reset it. If I didn't reset the affinity the WCG program would "mooch" on core #3 of a Q6600 and lower my GPU2 PpD. (I'm CPU'ing 3x WCG clients) :)

There are many people on this forum that'd be more than willing to help you and they don't talk down to you or insinuate you're an idiot.. The nice thing about it is the opinions/cures/advice you get here are pretty accurate. Some of the members are real experts when it comes to "top of the line componets", computers in general and DCing in particular. ;)

Good luck with whatever you do. I'm sure someone with way more knowledge about computers and DC'ing then me will chime in. :D\

Folding and WCGing for a CURE

heres my settings on my 9600GSO. i havent tried to push it much more than this, and have had no problems EUEing. (i did for a while but it was those crap WU's fault :D)

Core- 691
Shader- 1836
Mem- 900
Fan- 80%
Temp around 62C, (but these new WU's bumped it up to around 67-68)
((EDIT).... this is on a Dual slot edition)
I got decent PPD with this setup... it was at 5K, now its down to 2.5-3K (damn WU's)
hope this helps out!
