Looks like ATi won again...

I don't see where the speculation charge comes from, 3 separate people on NVnews have aquired retail 6800Us, these are not reviewers, just enthusiasts, all three have gotten decent overclocks out of them on stock cooling, that is 100% of the sample, hence is is a reasonable assumption to make that the 6800 will overclock fairly well as there isn't any contradictory evidence.

There has been problem for nVidia delivering chips that passes the QA testings for 450 on air... the manufacturers have more stringer demands on what their chips should be able to handle.

Nvidia has a better design with features not found on ATI's next gen.

Nvidia fails on wafer fabrication that doesn't allowed their chip to
operate at a much lower clock.

Since both ATI and Nvidia have similar architectures (but ATI lacking
new features), the performance scales equally via the clock, therefore
Nvidia clocked at 400Mhz is going to cripple the chip as ATI runs
much faster at 525Mhz. Not sweet for Nvidia. If they offered a 525Mhz
card then that would be a more fair comparison of 'How much work
does the card do per clock'.

Nvidia can only blame themselves. But there is light at the end of the
tunnel. If they can boost more performance by optimizing their
drivers then perhaps they can be saved. ATI drivers are already
mature since it's the same old school architecture with more pipes.
Their next gen is already hitting max potential.

I really hope you will take back that last statement. 3 cards that overclocked well according to the people that have them is not much of a sample. Well, compared to the number of cards that nVidia actually has out, it is a large sample. But, it's not a large sample when you look at what the competition has out.

In other words, I will not base any type of purchasing decision nor will I accept as fact that nVidia's new card will overclock really well because there are 3 cards out there that do. You need to take into account that nVidia dropped the extra ultra ultra whatever card that had boosted clock speeds. Sure, there are a couple of manufacturers that will be producing some cards like that, but nVidia has for the most part dropped that version of the card. Keep in mind the possible reasons why they dropped it like that. If they were not having problems and the core scaled to those speeds without much trouble, then why isn't every card maker putting out those cards instead of just a couple? The numbers will be very limited for a reason, and it won't be because of the price of the card when there is the demand out there for the products.

i dont really think you can say that ATI is using "next generation" technology considering it has been around for years

they would rather be conservative and just completely maximize the performance of what they KNOW is good strong efficient technology

if the shoe fits, wear it.

this thread is retarded.

nVidia hasnt even officially entered the race yet. We've been listening to the nvidia fanboys hype the 6800 for way over a month now, and yet none of them own one yet.

its comical.

Yeh "bit boys" I meand Nvidia is guilty of a paper launch for sure

Yeah that much is for sure. I'm guessing that the cards are being held up by the WHQL driver release...that thing is way behind schedule...I mean it's been like 2 months now? more maybe? this is getting silly...

If you got a 6800 up to 525Mhz it would DESTROY an XTPE...

Come on you don´t believe the 6800 ULTRA exists???

Yes I believe it exists, I am just growing weary of all the ATI bashing from Nvidia fans when the 6800 is essentialy still missing in action. I have had many Nvidia cards in the past and they were great. I am sure someday I will again if they ever come up with a card that makes sense relative to my every six month card upgrade cycle.

If you wanna get all objective about it...you should just not play video games at all and spend your time meditating about how to make the world a better place...

Bigger, better, faster, more, and I want it right NOW...it's not a concept that can be explained...I want speed and I don't care how much it costs...sure I could save $80 if I waited for prices to come down...but then while I was waiting...I wouldn't have the newest video card on the markey...

-eMpTy

Sure you'l have the best card on the market, but for how long ? 5 months ?

and its going to cost you what ? $400 at least for the newest card ?

so your paying on average $80 a month just so you can say that you have the best card on the market ?

And the truth is, you can brag about it all you want. But I don't respect anyone who puts that much money into a single video card for bragging rights.

^Again do you own one?And have you overclocked them your self?

No i didnt think so so its all still PURE speculation until you have one in your own hands and its running at your Speculated overclock

By your warped sense of logic I should consider HardOCPs reviews PURE speculation since I don't own a X800Pro and 6800U myself.

And since you're going to feel the need to viagratize ATI, I'll save you the trouble and do it for you. Currently the X800Pro is the best overclocker of the lot, however, if you weren't too busy beating off for ATI you might have noticed that the conversation was about the XTPE and the Ultra.

Again, since those averse to reading and thinking are going to assume I'm saying the 6800U beats the XTPE, I should clarify that all I'm saying is that the 6800U will be the better overclocker of the 2 and nothing more. I'll wait for more benchs before making any performance claims and my purcahse decision [still swinging back and forth between the Gainward Cool FX 6800U and the HIS Ice II X800XTPE].

I want it while it's hot, but I also want to keep it for atleast 18 months so then assuming I would save $80 by waiting 2 months that's only $40/month extra for the first 2 months, then I paid the same as everyone else who waited.

I could give a shit who respects or does not respect my video card choices. If you ever find yourself buying a video card because you think it will make people respect you...well...you have some serious issues.

^ ^ ^ Quite uncalled for, more like spamming.

Nevertheless, the only thing I worry about is the price. Right now, the high end cards are asking astronomical prices. I'd have to go a month broke for rent in order to afford one.

yeah I hear that reasoning a lot, but in most situations it just doesn't work

perhaps I was to assertive, I still stand by my statement that all evidence currently points to the 6800 being a quite good overclocker and there is as of now little contradictory evidence. time will tell in the long run as the cards become more common but I expect this to be shown to be true overall.

I've been doing this for about 7 years now and it's worked quite well for me.

I went from a Riva 128, skipped the 128zx, got a Riva TNT 1, skipped the TNT2s altogether, got a Geforce DDR, skipped the Geforce 2s altogether, Got a Geforce 3 Ti 500, skipped the Geforce 4s, and then got a Geforce FX 5900 Ultra...

I must say I've never had any problems playing the latest games while buying cards at this pace...which was about 18 months between cards...
