Hi gang...I currently have a 8800 GTS 512 Nvidia PCI-E

I'm running a Q6600 2.4ghz on 8 gigs of ram.

I primarily play WoW at mid settings but with cataclysm hitting and a lot of graphical revamps I'd like to upgrade to something that can handle the game better. Am I exaggerating? I get about 59 FPS out in the zones, but my FPS drops dramatically in cities to about 20's maybe 30's in heavily populated areas. I'm looking to break the bank, I just want something that can push the game a little harder.

Isn't WoW pretty CPU bound? You probably would see a boost getting your Q6600 to even 3GHz.

What PSU do you have?
What resolution are you playing at?
What motherboard do you have?
What's your max budget for this upgrade?

Yes Wow is very CPU dependent. Not multi-core friendly but very reliant on sheer clock speed.

Some excellent deals going on with 5870's and GTX 470's these days.
If you're not interested in spending $300+ on one of the new series video cards, they're your best bet.

Depends on the rest of your system, I guess. Answer Danny's questions and you'll get more specific replies.
And in my opinion, any C2D/C2Q that isn't at 3 GHz or higher, is a crime against humanity.

Corsair VX 550

GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard

Playing at 1920 x 1200 (Wide) I have a Samsung SyncMaster 245sw.

If overclocking will help, then what should I do. I don't want to spend a boat load of money maybe $200 max.. WoW is pretty much the only game I play.

That sounds good Danny. Thanks...

Any reason sot picj the HD 6850 over the GTX 460 and vice versa?!

The 6850 runs cooler, uses less power, has MLAA, and is a little less powerful than the 460, but the 460 is cheaper after rebates usually.

In addition, the GTX 460 tends to be bundled with 1-2 games more often than the 6850 so that adds to the value of the GTX 460 card.
