Looking to upgrade my graphics card at the moment. Games that I definitely plan on playing are:

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Call of Duty: World at War
Modern Warfare 2
Left 4 Dead
Starcraft 2
Diablo 3

I'll be running at 1680x1050 resolution. I have been looking at this GTS 250 card, because it supposedly will come with cod4 and codwaw. I'll contact newegg just to make sure cause when I add it to my cart it only shows up codwaw.

Wondering if I should wait or go ahead and upgrade from a hd 2400pro 128mb lame card. Will there be any price cuts in the near future? Should I go with evga and step up?? Or should I go with a cheaper card such as the hd 4770 which seems to be out of stock on newegg at the moment?

I have no necessary budget but I am not willing to spend more than for a gts 250 right now

it should be a forum rule that ALL specs be listed when asking for video card and/or upgrade advice. OP at least you did list the res but could please list the rest of your specs?

QFMFT.

Please provide the specs of your system, especially the exact make and model of the PSU. Kind of retarded to get a new video card if the PSU can't handle it.

I post a XFX ATI 4890 deal earlier.

I don't think the GTS 250 is really worth it. For a little more you can get either the GTX 260 or ATi 4890 and they will run circles around the GTS 250.

I can sum all my thoughts about the GTS 250 up in a single sentance:
its the eighth iteration of the G92.

the 260 and 4850 are infintely more elegant solutions.

eighth?

8800GTS 512->9800gtx->9800gtx+->gts250

regardless, MrWizard is correct that you should shell out a few extra bones for the gtx 260 or maybe a 4870

HD 4890 are getting real cheap. There one for $184 on newegg and eWiz has XFX 4890 $184 shipped. If you're willing to shell out $50 extra that will net you twice the fps in todays ultra gpu demanding games.

lol at everybody still suggesting cards and we dont even know what the rest of his pc looks like.

I don't recall cards work better on some pc and not others. Of course they all work better on a faster one. :p
just because it works doesnt make it a good choice. no point in suggesting a card if the rest of this system isnt decent enough to utilize it. ;)

The hd4850 just came in yesterday. It works great!! Such a huge upgrade from my hd2400 pro. Can actually run COD4 at native resolution (1680x1050), at max, plus with aa.

For the curious bunch here are my computer specs:
xps 420
q6600
3gb ram @ 667mhz
hd 4850 512mb
375psu

yeah the psu is low in wattage but it has 30amps and i had read in many forums that dells power supplies are underrated. it has run cod4 for 2 continuous hours, street fighter 4's benchmark, and pcmark05 without any problems.

8800GT, 8800GTS 512, 8800GS, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+, 9600GSO rev1, 9800GT, 9800GX2...

er, im sorry, ninth. :\
