Dont wanna spend $500 but want something to hold me over til I get my PCIe machine.. any recommendations?
 
If your PCIe machine is in the works for the next 6 months just hang on to the 9700. The 9700 is still a good card in DX9 based games for an AGP platform. Also will see spring refreshes of current hardware that will further extend your video card dolar.
 
6600 Gt. It is lightyears better. My friend has one and I can't believe how well it runs Doom 3 and the rest of his games. If you are light gamer like my brother though who only plays games like Unreal 2004 and Warcraft 3, I would keep it though. Actually that would be a nice upgrade for him. If you do buy a new card, I will buy your old one to help pay for it. How about $75?

I second that motion. If you're going PCI-E within 6 months or so, no need for a new card. Just sit tight with that one.
