I currently have a core i3 laptop 8 gb ram,500 gb hard drive.

so should I get another i3 or i5 processor pc? my budget $450.

thanks

The main difference between the Core i3 and Core i5 is the i5 has Turbo Boost which is an automatic overclock as long as the temperature is not too high.

For example, my core i5-2410m has a base clock speed of 2.3GHz. When Turbo Boost is activated and the CPU temp is not too the following occurs:

1. When only one core is used, the CPU can hit 2.9GHz.
2. When both cores are used, the CPU can hit 2.7GHz.

The one bad thing about Turbo Boost is that it will cause the CPU to run hot since it is running at higher speeds. When I play games on my Lenovo Y470 with Turbo Boost on, the CPU temp usually goes up to 92c - 94c. When Turbo Boost is disabled CPU temps generally hits 86c - 88c when playing games. I don't like my CPU going above 90c so when I play games, I actually disable Turbo Boost. If I am encoding video (like at this very moment when I am typing) I enable Turbo Boost because the CPU typically hits the high 80c when encoding, it might hit 90c but it is usually below that. Plus it also speeds up the encoding process.
