Hey guys, first off, here's the Q&A:
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming, photoshop, and encoding some hd video will be the more intensive tasks
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I have a very open budget for this, I can spend whatever I want for the most part. I'd like to keep this under $1K, but it's not a big deal if I go over.
3) Where do you live?
Midwest US
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, RAM, Mobo, SSD, Video Card
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
PCP&C 750 Silencer Quad, but will upgrade if needed. Case, 2x 1TB Drives, X-Fi Platinum
6) Will you be overclocking?
Maybe a little, going to be focusing more on keeping the rig quiet.
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
For right now 3x Dell 2007fp S-IPS panels, may move to 3x24 with this setup later.
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Probably ordering no later than the 12th.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
e-sata is a plus, don't care about raid, would like firewire, and crossfire is a possibility I would like to keep open.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?
Win7 x64 Ultimate
Here's what I've got picked out so far:
I7-920 Bloomfield LGA1366
OCZ 3x2GB 1600 (OCZ3G1600LV6GK)
A 5850, probably an XFX
Intel X25 80GB
I'm bascially looking for the best bang for the buck I can get on a reasonable powerful rig. I don't need insane speeds, not trying to compete just want something that will handle some basic encoding and provide a decent gaming experience. I will be using eyefinity quite a bit (and yes I know I need a DP adapter, already budgeted). I don't need to run every game full on, and w/20 Inch screens I'm sure the 5850 will do well. If I go to 24's later, I'll be upgrading the video card at the same time.
That said, I haven't really researched for a rig in awhile, and wouldn't mind some feedback from you fine folks if you're willing. I might do some mild oc'ing just for kick here and there, but I'd rather keep the system reasonably quiet than faster.
I've looked at several mainboards, and I'm wanting one that supports x-fire and SLI, and where the PCI slots are positioned where it won't create a problem for the x-fi.
Any recommendations?
