Looking for good quality cans for light gaming and computer audio. I have a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music card.

I had bought Koss SB-40 earlier and thought they sounded pretty good. Looking for equivalent or better but less than $50.

EDIT: what about cans with a microphone ?

I personally have never listened to them, but the JVC RX700s seem to get a lot of love in that price bracket. Might be worth checking them out.

I'm pretty happy with mine, comfy and they sound good to me... I'm no audiophile tho, but a lot of people claim they rival or at least approach the quality of several more expensive cans. There's a few mods you can do to improve them as well, check HeadFi.org. I haven't bothered with any yet but I might try stuffing extra foam rings into the ear pads. Might make them even more comfortable (padding on mine has flattened a bit) and some say it even improves bass a bit, not that they lack bass or anything...

I have two pair. I've listened to some audiophile equipment, and these headphones are not that grade. They are, however, as good as a lot of junk at Bestbuy that will cost you $50-120. For the price, they sound amazing. Compared to everything else out there, they sound good.

Also, very durable. My dog knocks them off my desk 3-4 times a weak and I've never had any problems.

That's an excellent thread, but it focuses on portable cans and the thread author didn't say anything about portability... So he has a lot more options for the money than those found in that thread. When you don't have to worry about sound leakage or size you can focus the design elsewhere, just saying.

Perhaps I'm just cheap... but I sure don't see $100+ headphones being "portable". I'd be too worried that someone else would see them as "portable" and steal them. ;)

As for gaming headsets, I personally use a pair of Sharkoon Xtasy. It's designed for gaming and movies in 5.1, but absolute shit for good music listening. And it does have a mic that you can remove if it's not needed.

I'd go w/a decent set of cans and add a clip-on mic, if you have a thick headphone cord it can be clipped to that (some mics come w/clips for exactly that)... Better bang for your dollar at $50-ish imo.
