I'm looking for an external enclosure that can do RAID 0 and work over USB. I'm going to be using it to back up my WHS and plan on toting it back and forth from the office, so something lightweight is best. I want to shove a couple of 2 or 3TB drives in it.

Why do you need raid 0? Remember a single hard drive will be 2 to 5 faster than USB2.

Edit: I guess you want to use the combined space of the 2 drives so you do not have to break your backup in 2 parts..

So does anyone know if such a beast exists?

I guess I could go to a cheap NAS.

1, you do not want raid 0 - not safe period.
2. raid is not a backup

instead of moving databack and forth from the office have you considered incremental backups over the internet, a vpn or something?

I don't want to pay for cloud storage, especially not for 3+ TB of data and especially not on my ~700 KB/s connection.

"RAID is not backup" doesn't make any sense in this context, since an external RAID array will literally be the backup. "RAID is not backup" applies to people having their data on a single RAID 1 or 5 array and not doing a separate backup.

no. raid is simply not a backup period on any level of raid and especially in this context. So you have your computer and raid array on the same power circuit / breaker on your house, get a surge which blows the drives for some reason = 'backup' gone and so is your main system data...that is just one example.

a backup is taking data out of a location which could be affect by the same problems, power, weather. failures et cetera so again, raid is not a backup and especially in this context.
