I borrowed two 6pin cables from a friend of mine to power my crossfire build (because i didnt have any extra cables) and somehow i fried my motherboard using them (thats the only extra component I used)...

Do modular PSU cables differ in someway? And WHY would it kill my mobo... of all components why not the graphics card it was attached to?

This isn't making much sense to me because the only thing I added/changed were those cables... The PSU still works fine though...

**Btw I've got a Corrsair HX750

Yes, modular cables from different companies, or even from different powersupplies from the same company, can be non-interoperable.

Sorry to hear about your problem but, the psu has short circuit protection, the motherboard slots do not.

Modular cables should never, ever be used with a PSU they did not come with, unless you have checked the pinouts and are 100% sure that they are compatible.

Pinouts match,... im sure of it... i wouldn't force anything :|

The physical connection may match but the pins and the layout of those pins may not match. Get it?

In other words, sorry dude you had to learn a lesson the hard way.

Bingo. The pinout is how the different wires are arranged on the connector, not the shape of the connector itself. Just because the connectors are the same doesn't necessarily mean that they are compatible.

And even when the pinout is compatible, it's not always a good thing. Wolf tried using some Antec CP series modular cables on a TP series (the one with the extra filtering capacitors on the cable) and found that while it worked, and didn't damage anything, things were out of spec.

The CP series does not have capacitors built into the cables. The Truepower Quattro 1200W is the only Antec PSU that does.
