Basically, I want to run multiple high-rpm scythes and 200mm fans, and quite honestly one fan header from my motherboard doesn't seem sturdy enough to do (for some reason, only sys_fan1 is working under voltage control, sys_fan2 is pwm I believe and sys_fan3 doesn't seem to control anything).

I found the Bitfenix Recon, NZXT Sentry 2 and Sunbeam Theta.

I just want simple automatic control. I can live with a single thermocouple (on the CPU), maybe a second one on the GPU. I do not need multiple profiles, just one that ramps up say when the CPU gets above 40°C. I do not need fancy controls, in fact I don't even want one in a 5.25 bay. I liked the Theta a lot because it uses a PCI slot, and one that uses the PCI-e slot would work as well.

The Bitfenix Recon seems to match this the most. I don't think the Sentry 2 does automatic control (correct me if I'm wrong). Are there any other alternatives? I also prefer one that doesn't cost over $50.

It's been discontinued. I guess not enough other guys liked this product. :rolleyes: I also found a 2009 posting where a guy was asking about driver availability. Caveat emptor.
 
The Bitfenix Recon now has some software floating around that works pretty good (Phoebetria), and it's a cheap controller, under $40.

Looks real nice, but it's limited to 10W/ch. In other words, no water cooling pump speed control.
 
Sadly, the Theta is long dead, or I would've jumped on it. The 10W/ch is fine for me, I'm only driving Scythe SH fans (which are 6W each, I believe).

The main thing is that I don't want to spend $40 for a simple automatic fan controller. Can anyone verify that the Sentry 2 does the same thing as the Bitfenix, minus the software controls (I just want to set it and forget it). It's much cheaper than the Bitfenix and I'm only driving fans. I'd probably just push it inside the bay and use a 5.25 cover to hide the screen anyway, I don't want fancy screens on my front fascia.

Just for the record, as they say, there is still an alternative from a German company, Acquero, IIRC. But their total USB-based solution is north of $100 US, and it's hard to piece together, since the website is mostly in German.
 
At that point I'll just buy an arduino and a couple of transistors and wire it up myself...
 
the Scythe master sever whatever they are called (fan ace) do this. It doesn't use software it's hardware. You just place the probes on whatever and then set the minimum temperature at which the fans start spinning, then it ramps up from there. There are 3 modes, auto, manual and another one...(semi-auto? :D). I use it so that the fans on the radiator don't start until things get above 40c. It's pretty cheap too.

This is the new version of it.
