Just looking for some advice on a laptop.

Something along the lines of this $700 price range.

Costco had this deal going on and I have heard good things about lenovoes.

I like the fact that it comes with the 2 year warranty, and blue ray player etc. Does anyone else have recommendations? The only thing I didnt like about it was the low resolution for it being a 17". Not looking to do any high end gaming or anything on it like that. Just general school work, web browsing, multimedia, and random here and there crap games.
 
If you like Lenovos, you could check out their Ideapad line. It's a lot cheaper than the Thinkpad series.
 
That Lenovo G770 is not bad if you are looking for a desktop replacement.

I just received my Lenovo IdeaPad Y470 today so I'm putting through it's paces right now. Currently testing battery life during general usage. I prefer the ThinkPad series though since I have a ThinkPad T40, but I figure I would buy a toy that I can use to play games if I decide to go on vacation with it.

Perhaps I'll book a room at the Belagio in Vegas for 4 days and 3 nights. I'll simply order room service and stay in my room all 4 days playing games until it's time to fly back home.
 
I'm also searching for a college laptop. My criteria is a ~600$ laptop with a discrete gpu.
I would've suggested a Toshiba on TD for $499 which had a 5650 and a phenom ii n660, but it sold out yesterday. (I should've bought it. damn)

But I can't seem to find any good deals atm...

They probably phased it out for the llano variants, which are (ironically) either just as fast, or a bit faster on the CPU side, while also having battery life comparible to Intel solutions!!
 
I learned more about what my actual laptop needs were after I bought my laptop, which I wish I knew beforehand. If you're looking to do school work, run multimedia, and maybe play the occasional old game, then you may want to consider a Llano based laptop. As much as I like the power of my Sandy Bridge and Geforce 540m, it's way overkill for light stuff.

On the bright side, it should last you longer than a Llano based laptop. Thus saving yourself some money in the long run since you can delay the purchase of a new laptop. Unless of course, the laptop dies prematurely.
