I currently have a Dell 2005FPW (20.1"). It's served me well for the past five years, however I'm in dire need of an upgrade. I'm looking to get a larger panel. Preferably 24" or higher, however I will settle for a 23" monitor only if it will truly serve me better than a 24".

I do quite a bit of gaming (FPS) such as Battlefield and Call of Duty. I'd say about 4 times a week. I also am a photographer. While I'm not a professional, and more-so a hobbyist, I do take it rather seriously with over 80GB of photos from the past three years and well over $5,000 invested in the hobby (Cannon bodies and a few L-Lenses, etc).

I have zero-inkling on the difference between IPS and TN panels, other than my Dell is an IPS and most of what I'm looking at on Newegg are a TN. I hear IPS is better for the photo work but TN is better for gaming. I also read that those with an IPS hate their TN and now are "stuck" on IPS quality. Therefore, I'm confused and stuck in a huge dilemma :p.

I've been looking at displays (24") on Newegg around the $200-$250 price range, which really is my budget. I have also been contemplating LED vs traditional LCD. Any suggestions or advice? Once I'm looking at is the Asus VE248H. It "looks good to me" but then again, I'm not as knowledgeable about displays as I am in other areas of computing so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Your 2005FPW is an older S-IPS display.

If you want to keep similar display qualities to what you are used to, the Dell U2311H or NEC EA231WMI should fit the bill, and should be in your price range. They are solid 23" 1920x1080 screens.

Both have good responsiveness which is better than the 2005FPW you currently have, better black levels, accurate color from the factory, lower input lag, and more useful high-def inputs.

Going from what you have to a TN panel would be a downgrade visually. Check these two out. I'm sure they are better than what you are looking for at NewEgg.

Additionally, NewEgg has a fairly poor monitor return policy while Dell's is excellent.
