I am leaning towards the SeaSonic X as its a good deal at 139$ after rebate. Any suggestions or recommendations. All the reviews i have read say these are good power supplies.

I personally throughly love Seasnoic and there equipment! However from the list IMO would be Seasonic>Silverstone>Corsair.

I have the Seasonic Platinum 1000W

The best deal would be the X-850.

However, why do you need 850 watts?

You do realize that the Corsair and the Seasonic are the EXACT SAME PSU right?

That may not necessarily be true since Seasonics has fairly recently come out with the third Generation of their X-series PSU. The newegg X-850 is certainly the third generation but I kinda doubt the AX850 is.

However, why do you need 850 watts?

For starters i have a FX-8120@ 4.9ghz and a 7950 also overclocked. Combined with multiple fans (12), drives (2 SSD, 3 spinners), water cooling pump, sound card, wireless.

It takes a beefy power supply for all that stuff. Namely the processor.

All of the wattage estimates thing suggest at least a 620 watt power supply, and that is with out overclocking, and extras

I knew previous ones were made by Seasonic however didn't think the newest one was. Secondly I meant to put Seasonic>Corsair>Silverstone. Spaced on that one when typing, damn phone calls....

Based upon personal experience and warranties offered from each company.

It's still not going to take as much power as my previous system, which was a 920 @ 4 ghz + SLI 580s, 12 fans, 1 velociraptor, 2 spinners, and watercooling. Which all ran on my 750 watt power supply.

Your system is a 550-600 watt system, at worst with the overclocks. Without overclocks, it's a 450-500 watt system.

cool story bro

then explain why my kilowatt meter is reading 720 watts at the wall full load......

Assuming you have a kill-a-watt, those things can be up to 100 watts off. And are you sure you're measuring only your system, or does that include monitors, routers, etc?

then explain why my kilowatt meter is reading 720 watts at the wall full load......
Because KAW and similar devices are notoriously inaccurate when it comes PC hardware. Some reading:

Here's Paul Johnson's post, PSU reviewer of HardOCP.com, about the inaccuracy of the Kill-A-Watt:

Another Paul Johnson's post:

In addition, three other PSU experts backs up Paul Johnson's statement:

JonnyGuru of JonnyGuru.com and the former product manager for BFG acknowledge the inaccuracies of a KAW (Post #7 in regards to Post #2):

Efficency, KAW's being inaccurate, Monitors being added to the load, etc. etc. etc.

You have a 550w system.

those claims are great and all.

but your saying my kilowatt meter is off by at least 25%. Efficiency is one thing. That is straight from the power supply to the wall, not including monitors or anything else. It means system wattage, straight from the power supply.

YET you don't understand the fact that I want a 850-1000watt power supply. Regardless of what my system currently uses or what you think it uses. I will tell you right now a 600 watt power supply is not enough for this system, been there done that.

I don't buy things to be at their limits. My system changes quite often. The power supply however is something I don't even think to replace for years. Thus I buy on the conservative side knowing that if i choose to do crossfire or sli I have the needed headroom.

Stay on topic, I posted links of the power supplies i was considering. Half of you want to debate on why i want such a power supply. So let me just jump on my douche train and not understand what the original poster wanted. Oh wait that is me. Seriously don't bother commenting.

I ordered the SeaSonic X Series X-850 get over it.

There is a difference between overhead and overkill. That's all we're trying to get across to you. A 600-650 watt unit would have given you 10-15% overhead. That's not running it full tilt, and that's also running it in its most efficient range.

You never said you were considering SLi in the future. We were just trying to save you abit of dough and steer you towards the proper PSU for your application.

If you just want a specific wattage and don't want any honest input on your situation, then here.

That's a relatively up to date database of good PSU reviews. Then you can ride your douche train and leave us the fuck alone.

wow people are still posting.

i already ordered the seasonic.

I didn't say anything about my system at all. Yet people wanted to determine what they think is best for my system. I've had crossfire before (7870s's before i got the 7950 which i had planned on getting another.

Stay on topic you your going to post, and stop badgering me about what you think my computer needs and what it doesn't need. I straight out told you i wanted a 850-1000 watt power supply. That alone should tell you I'm considering crossfire.

without saying your considering crossfire, there is no way of us knowing.
no need to get upset because people are giving you good recommendations.

and a 600 watt is probably enough for you system, even if you go crossfire.
i have an 850w and im adding a third gpu to my system on this powersupply.

you asked, and you got more than good answers.

the seasonic was a good choice.
its a fully modular 850w for a great price.

You need to get off your high and mighty throne and stop thinking the entire world revolves around you and that we're supposed to be able to read your mind.

The question is why he even bothered to ask since he seemed to know what he wanted.
Maybe a sticky like the general hardware would be good in stating that newer computer parts are getting lower and lower in power consumption. And that those psu calculators suck, how many vid cards, whole computer system, etc.

He knew he wanted a 850-1000W PSU. He didn't know what brand though and that was what he was asking. He stated several times, maybe without enough tact or deference to senior members, that he didn't want to consider a lesser power. So if he wants to buy more power than he needs, so what? You were not going to change his mind and maybe he felt he was being browbeaten a little, even you all had his best interests in mind.

Lets all relax here, were just on the interent. :p
