hey, i am looking for an AMD socket AM2 motherboard than can support an ATI X1600 or higher card, and can hold a SATA 3 g/b's HDD, and can hold 2GB of some good RAM, PC 667 or higher. if any of you know a good board please post it and i thank you!!!

Pretty much all of the AM2 Nvidia based boards fit the bill. There are several manufacturers that make them.

I don't think there is an AM2 board that will not do all of what you wanted in your first post. As the memory is done from the cpu and they support 800. All boards have pci-e x16 slots, and sata 3. And I can't remember the last time I saw a board that didn't support up to 8gb of memory.

So I'm not sure what your getting at, but if your thinking you have to have an ati chipset mobo or something, you don't. But I'm rather confused as to what your talking about.

No...ATI cards work perfectly in Nvidia chipset boards. ATI/AMD has a new 690 chipset that works fine also. Personally, I think the Nvidia ones are better, but they should both fit your needs.

I believe, and that has gotten me in trouble ;) , is that you may have been confused by the "mutiple gpu issue". 2 x nvidia (SLI) and 2 x ATI (Crossfire) are mobo specific.

Wanting to run a single gpu is NOT mobo bound, example my biostars have nvidia controls but are running ATI (X1950 Pro & X1650XT). As far as I know the only limiting issue with a single card is the slot AGP vs PCI-e.

Hope this helps! :D
