build a gaming pc for my brother...

core 2 duo E6550
Asus SLI motherboard
Sli 8800GTS 2x
2 hdds sata raid 0

but he don't have enought money to buy expensive PSU.. so can u recommend me which PSU good to run the whole system? his budget is no more than 60 or 70 bucks.. please help..

I'd recommend ditching the GTS SLI and go for a single GTX or Ultra and buying a Corsair VX550W which can be had around $75 after mib.

Get less expensive P35 board to save money there.

I strongly agree.

SLI'd GTS' aren't worth it. SLI is only needed for high resolution 3D rendering. So, if you have or plan on getting a 1920x1080 LCD or higher, and want to game on it at native resolution, then keep SLI as an option. Otherwise, theres no need for it. A single GTX is still fine for a 1920x1080 (or 1920x1200) LCD screen, and more cost effective than an 8800GTS SLI setup. SLI as an upgrade path isn't worth it unless, again, a large LCD is in the future plans. There should always be a better single card solution, and you could sell your old card to help offset the cost.

If he has a 30" LCD, get GTX's for SLI. Aything less, stick to a single card solution.

What size monitor does he have?
What's his budget?
What's included in that budget?
What games does he play?

right now he use samsung 17'' lcd but in the future he going to upgrade to ACer 22'' LCD
he going to play the new game like crisis ..
he want to build a good pc so it can last him for a couple years without upgrading that why he want to go for SLI...

so far we already bought everything.. accept the PSU..

Core 2 6550
Asus SLi Momtherboard
2 gigs memory OCZ
Antec 900 Case
Zalman Heatsink
2 haddrives RAID 0
1 sata dvd rw rom
1 5'25 drive bay internal card

all ready to go .. just need the PSU.. he out of money so looking for a good PSU to run this system... i don't know much about PSU.. before i though more POWER WATTS means it a good PSU.. but someone told me it not... they told me look for 30a +12v ect..

Unfortunately, he'll need a good PSU for both of those GTS'... It would have been cheaper for him to get a single GTS, then upgrade it every so often instead. The GPU is the fastest depreciating component in a gaming PC. You'll get better performance from upgrading every 2yrs or so than trying to keep an SLI setup for 5yrs. A single GTX would have been fine for his 22" monitor, too.

$103: Antec TruePower Trio 650W (8800GTS SLI)

If you have to go with a cheap PSU, then the 500W XCLIO GoodPower is a good choice. But, the Corsair HX520 would be the first one that I'd normally recommend (or the HX620 if you want to keep the option of SLI open for the future).

One 640MB 8800GTS is powerful enough for a 22 inch monitor, so you wouldn't need to return both cards (assuming they've already been purchased) to free up funds. A 8800GTX would be fine, too... but I agree with enginurd about SLI being unnecessary for your (brother's) needs.

I wouldn't recommend the Goodpower, even though it's a pretty good PSU. With the kind of load that guy is going put on, I recommend the 500W Stablepower instead:
XCLIO Stablepower 500W PSU - $70

we already have window vista ultimate x64,, and will do raid 0. this pc for games, movie and internet . that all..

From your bro's specs, the Stablepower I recommended is a good choice. It's made by Enhance, makers of pretty good power supplies.

Oh and that Ultra PSU review you linked to, the PSU wasn't properly tested with an ATE. For PSU reviews that actually test the PSU with professional equipment, read from these sites:

Hm... GTS SLI on that Enhance made Stablepower? maybe... but this is only $20 more:

$90 - Antec TruePower TRIO 650 650W Power Supply Retail ***Free Shipping***

because i have the antec 900.. so i will having hardtime to hide the PSU wires.. i have to cut some holes on my antec 900.. my brother will buy the corsair hx520.. he like the wires

Well, as the 520HX is modular, I don't think you have to cut any holes. ;)

Well... never mind the fact that that unit hasn't been made in about three years.

I thought he was dropping that plan (Edited for clarification):

Wow that costs too much for him. He's going to return back the video cards and get a single GTX

Doh, I was in a rush and missed that part. Sorry. Yah, the 520W Corsair would be perfect, but I thought he wanted to spend LESS than the Trio 650W ($103 in my first post)???

wow that cost to much for him.. he gooing to return back the video card and get a single card GTX.. will this reduce the price for the PSU??

It could have, but he chose the Corsair HX520W, lol. Anyhow, where did he get the GTS cards from? Hopefully, there's no restocking fee. If there is, ask them to waive it if you buy the GTX from them.

we bought the video card at fry's 300 dollars each.. cost totally $670 for both... we mostly spend all the money on the part.. and short money on the PSU..

Yah, good thing Fry's has no restocking fee, lol. Return them to Fry's and order a GTX online, its cheaper than Fry's.
