Looking for a GOOD computer desk

I'm looking for a good computer desk/workstation... especially after looking through the 20 Of The Worst PC Setups thread. The problem is that I'm browsing through the "computer desk" and "computer workstation" and the matches I'm seeing seem to be designed for "look nice", "single (small) monitor", and "oh yeah, you are using a computer". Sorry, I'm one of those folks who "use a computer to earn a paycheck" and may have a work laptop in addition to their home desktop at home with a 27" monitor and a possibility of multiple monitors. Some of the photos of desks show people working with CRTs and CRT-based iMacs. Last time I checked, CRTs went out almost a decade ago.

A corner unit and a L-shaped unit is OUT. I'm checking Amazon (because I can then ship it home), and I'm finding the following:

• Safco 1928MO Extra Wide Adjustable Height Workstation - This is more in line with what I want, but the price tag is ouch! Turns out that this is discontinued by the manufacturer.
• Z-Line Designs Cyrus Workstation - I think my mom has a similar desk to this.
• King's Brand 2950 Glass and Metal Home Office Computer Workstation Desk - I like this desk, but worried about the dimensions.
• Techni Mobili Ergonomic MDF Computer Workcenter - This has a nice layout, but no riser for the monitor.

Any suggestions?

Just a heads up, you could always just make a DIY riser for like $14 if the desk you want doesn't have one:

I'm actually looking for a desk myself but it's starting to look like I'm going to have find someone who's good at woodworking to get what I want. Though my requirements are different from yours in that I actually want an L-shaped desk.

A friend of mine recommended the Bush Series A 48 inch Desk which has the dimensions of 29 3/4 H x 47 1/2 W x 26 7/8 D which might work out for me.

I think this desk was $100-150 at office depot or office max,

or you can build one if you have carpentry tools and some skill,
my friend built this one and gave it to me 18 years ago,

Also, if your monitor has VESA mounts, you could just get an arm to mount it to,

Desks with risers ???. This is totally against ergonomics. Proper head position to avoid chronic neck and back muscle problems is to look bit down. What is needed then is rather desks with recess to position (sizable) monitor closer to the edge of the desk if the monitor arm does not allow to lower it sufficiently low.

Nothing will ever be better than a custom made desk.

Custom made furniture allow you to use the maximum out of your space and fit your needs to the maximum you can define them.

So far I have ordered two custom made furniture. They are not more expensive than the "standard" ones. Maybe 20-30$ more unless more material in needed, and this is for Greece, the States are supposed to be cheaper.

My computer desk has been modified a little by me so far.
I plan on modifying it even more when I have the right blade for my oscillating saw. It is not worth buying a new custom desk because I plan to butch-... ehm... "modify" it so I can mount peripherals on it...

I use old books to raise my monitor as much as the center of my screen is concentric to my eyes. Is not feel awkward. Quite the opposing. For me looking down gives me pains...
The books are used for testing purposes. The idea is to have the monitor when I want it for a few months so I can test it without any permanent changes to the desk itself.
For custom made desk (order from store, not DIY) I suggest using adjustable monitor shelve because; 1. things might be off an inch or two; 2. for a professional is like 1 minute of work and will come in handy later.

If you go with the "standard" furniture, make sure that you go to the store and test them. Also make sure to measure the height of your chair and find a similar one from the store.

Just as an update....

My manager dropped hints that I will be able to telecommute more often. That means the possibility that I will require multiple monitors. Time to convert a bedroom to a official home office/unofficial "man cave". With more space to work with, I got a Alera Plus SedinaAG Series Straight Front Desk Shell, with dimensions of 72" wide (6 feet), 36" deep (3 feet), and 29-1/2" high (2.5 feet). I assembled it yesterday afternoon, and I'm still tweaking the layout, so no "battlestation" photo yet. Plus, I'm still going through house cleaning.
