I would like to build a box which can support up to 5-10 concurrent users, which means that I can use cheap hardware as long as I do daily backups. The box will run a small DB and apache. The box must also be nearly silent. This is what I have in mind, so please add details and recommendations:

1) Quiet PSU?
2) Athlon XP (I need an overclockable one without a huge change in voltage settings) Maybe a 2400+ ?
3) Large, but low-cost heatsink which can use a quiet case fan.
4) 2x 1gb PC3200 memory
5) Any IDE drive that is a model least likely to fail. For now, I'm thinking about a 16mb cache maxtor.
6) Mainboard which has basic OC settings, onboard ethernet, and graphics, but can support up to 4gb of memory.
7) Cheap case

preeetty much not helping out here, but until someone else reply's.

....modded xbox?

A mid-tower ATX, which can hold a raid-5 array later on.

normally i would never ever reccomend a dell.. but these things.. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/pedge_sc420?c=us&cs=&l=en&s=bsd&

dell sc420 servers.. go on sale for $250 all the time.. even at $329 you really can't build that computer for that kind of money...

otherwise.. your specs sound fine..
mobile barton..
shuttle an35 ultra
cheap case and psu..
seagate has a 5 year warranty.. vs 3 for other brands..

you could probably throw together a decent system for $400 or so..
