ive been contemplating buying a new videocard now that the X800 series is out. We are all now seeing double the performance of the previous generations i.e 9800xt and 5960u. That is wonderful to see and great for all of us as consumers. But it gets me wondering. Are we gonna have a repeat of what happened to the generations before? what i mean is, with the next generation of cards after these, referring to the x800's etc, will they not offer another significant performance leap? I have a 9700 pro right now and its very very tempting to buy one of the x800 series, but considering their just refined cores, which is not bad by any means, I was hoping for something new.

Is it too early to say, whats gonna happen with the next next gen cards? The reason i ask this is because i dont want to buy a x800 XT and drop the 500 bux....only for ATI to release a new card in early 2005 or even earlier, which is DOUBLE the performance of the X800 series. Thats what worries me, especially considering all those who bought the 9800pros and XT's at the prices they were. Thoughts? Comments?

I don't think we will get double the performance that soon. Maybe late '05. But, since I'm not getting an x800 anyway, please prove me wrong and do it earlier, ATi!

It's a gamble, if Ati/Nvidia let you know if they were planning for a video card with 2x the performance for tomorrow, they wouldn't get your $500 today.
