Hi everyone! I have been reading this blog for about a month and have been doing research and am ready to give my first build a try.
I already have a case and psu that were given to me

And a Corsair 750W

Thanks so much! Y'all are always so helpful! :D

Hmm... I don't really plan on SLI'ing or Crossfiring immediately but i wasn't sure if i wanted to lock myself out of it in the future. Also, on the gigabyte board, would you be able to recommend a good firewire PCI card?

You don't need SLI/Crossfire for a 22" monitor, so don't bother.

If you need Firewire, the Asus P5K-E is also a good choice. The DFI board's BIOS OC'ing options may be a bit intimidating to the first time builder. Though, I hear that the DFI boards are great for OC'ing, mainly because of their voltage regulation and almost near elimination of vDroop. The IP35 Pro is tried and true, and is a very popular board. I think the only thing it has over the DFI is an external CMOS reset switch (someone can correct me if I'm wrong).

The rest of your build is looking good. You don't need DDR2-1000, but its the same price as the DDR2-800 models. The Corsair 750W is only $100 at buy.com and provantage.com. I wouldn't trust all my new parts with such a crappy looking 600W PSU. The PSU can take out every single component in a PC, so be careful. I'd highly suggest ditching the PSU and going for something better. Even a Corsair 450W would be better, and more than enough to power that rig.

I like the sound of that corsair 750w. Thanks for that suggestion, I will probably be looking into that! :)

For the DFI OC'ing, i have some computer guru friends that can help me with that. So it should all work out.

The only reason i would want to SLI is because I also own a 46" Sony Bravia 1080p tv which would be fun to connect to at times :D

I know that what i have won't reach the resolution i need for that.

If you want to avoid the headache of SLI, stick with a single card solution and upgrade to the 8800GTS 512MB instead of the 8800GT. Also note that new vidcards are coming out within a couple weeks, so getting an eVGA or BFG will allow you to step up to one of the newer cards. One of the newer cards should handle 1080P with no problems, allowing you to avoid SLI.

Well for $10 more than the Abit IP35 Pro you could get the EVGA 750i FTW which would allowing you the option of SLI should you ever decide you want it. Good overclocker too.
