Looking to build a gaming PC that will last a while (4-5 years) budget max is $1800 would like to be around $1500

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Mostly gaming, some video streaming(netflix), and light development.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1800 max with shipping and tax
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

Probably a mild overclock dont want to push it since it want it to last

getting new 1920 x 1080 23" or 24"
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
next 2 -3 weeks could wait longer if it means a better deal
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? etc.

Thinking about either Corsiar H100 or H80 for cpu cooler

Games msotly RPG's ie Skyrim, Dianlo3 (beta), Guild wars 2 once its released etc.
Light develpmnet is Crystal Reports and some DB work (wont be running sql server on this)

If I would do a RAID it would be for perfomance 2 drives only, more likely will do a SSD and a single storage drive depending on price/performance

Does a "complete build" include a set of speakers (or headphones), keyboard, and mouse? Do you also need a surge protector or an UPS (uninterruptible power supply, aka a surge protector with battery backup)?

Which games do you play? At what level of visual quality?

What do you mean by "light development"?

"RAID maybe"? How many storage drives do you expect to use?

Please clarify your answer to sticky question 10: Do you already have a copy of Windows on hand? If so, which edition (Home Premium, Professional, or Ultimate)? Is it an OEM or a Retail copy?
 
I would go for a 2600k or 2700k rather than that 3820. 3820 is the same 4 cores / 8 threads as i7s but you pay a grip more for the board, cpu and even the RAM is more as it is SB-E. Esp as you are building a gaming system which will see no benefit for the 3820 -- heck I don't see ANY benefit in nearly ANY application for a 3820 over a 2700k. The i7 ks have much more flexibility in oc'ing than the locked down 3820.
 
The 3820 is actually a little cheaper than the than the 2600K, yes its locked but they are still overcloking to 4GB + with ease, the MB ~ $100 more I will grant you but you getting some value there PCIe3 etc.
Now it may be a good choice to go down to the I5 2500K and save ~$200 on the MB,CPU together

Tirades no I dont need mouse ,speakers headphones,keyboard etc. I have a Windows 7 Enterprise licenses from where I work (they give me a license since I have to work from home once in a while).

The Raid is just an afterthought realy most likely will get a 64 - 120 GB ssd and 500GB - 1TB data drive to go with it
 
All right so drop the CPU and mmotherboard down to this:
$360 - Intel Core i5-2500K CPU + Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Intel Z68 ATX Motherboard

Swap out that WD drive for these faster Hitachi drives (Choose which ever one fits your budget):
$91 - Hitachi 7K1000.D HDS721050DLE630 500GB 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$137 - Hitachi Desktar 7K1000.D HDS721010DLE630 1TB SATA 6.0Gb/s Hard Drive

SSD wise, I recommend this:
$175 - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SSD
 
Radeon 7950 is a great choice, but i would wait on nVidia's supposed announcement today as it might cause prices to fall. (580 prices have already fallen extra at some retailers in addition to 7970 price drops that happened earlier this year). The m4 is a great choice for an ssd, any marvel based (m4, m3 series, performance pro) will do well, i would get whatever is cheapest (m4 is generally the cheapest). Danny Bui's recommendation on that mobo/cpu combo will be good, it has pci-e 3 capability as well (not sure if this is with ivy or not though). I'd pick up an IPS Panel Monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005240 for 20 bucks more. I would only go SB-E if you want to 2-way sli at min and 3 way sli/crossfire recommended. Its just a platform that way too expensive to get into unless you're going sli/crossfire setups.
