So today i tried to hook it up to the 360 via optical cable. It was werid because by selecting the optical mode, i can only hear through the 2 front speakers and center and the sub. I couldn't hear anything from the back. Is it weird or normal?

Sometimes there is just no surround content. Depends on the game. If you have output on the center channel I would say surround sound is working just fine.

i was watching movie with it, it's odd that there is no sound coming from the back using optical cable

It sounds like your XBOX is set to output lcpm 2.0 regular stereo. You can set the z5500s to do dolby surround view the remote and it will approximate surround from stereo or you can set it to do stereo x4 via the remote which is just duplicates the left and right front channels to the rears. I would go into the 360 and make sure DTS, Dolby and LCPM 5.1 are all enabled. I use a ps3 on my set and blurays are in perfect surround.
