Ditto. I didn't like the way I felt like I was barely touching the mouse and I kept inadvertantly hitting the near side buttons. And the far side buttons are damn near impossible to use and I am sure they are only there because it is a symmetrical mouse. Nobody has dextrous enough pinky fingers to get any real use out of them. I just returned my diamondback for a MX518. No complaints whatsoever. The side buttons are out of the way so I only hit them intentionally but they aren't to far away that I feel like I'm playing Twister on my mouse.

Logitech MX1000 is fantastic. EVERY button can be mapped to whatever function you need. I would have gotten a G5/G7 mouse, but they dumped too many buttons. WTF? I LOVE having THREE buttons at my thumb!

I got myself an MX 1000 for Christmas, upgrading from an MX 700, but the shape felt really wrong, so I exchanged it for a G7.
I love it. I was originally concerned that it only had one thumb button, but I just use the tilt wheel to substitute (Home/End, great to browse forums).
The only thing I really don't like about it is the slipperiness. I guess my hand gets sweaty. I got a pack of GamerGrips and those helped a lot.

I use an MX510, but I'm considering getting an MX518. I do like having two side buttons, so I'm a bit sceptical to anything with less.
Oh, and an olivetti keyboard that's probably pushing 10 years. (I like the way it feels, so why replace it?)

I own last years model gaming mouse from Logitech, but the microsoft blue mouse I had before it worked really good too. I have never owned a razor mouse, but that is only because I haven't seen one that fits my fancy.
My question is, has anyone tried out that "pistol mouse"? I wanted to buy one, but I also wanted to know how it worked from people who might have used it.

Logitech is the king of mice. I've had an MX510, MX518, MX1000, and now a G7.

I would have said razer but recently my copperhead has started to act as though it is broken. Whenever I click on a link it will open up two windows or if I highlight something it will highlight the entire area like I'm double clicking. IMO these mice are pretty crappy quality. I've only had this copperhead around 2 months as well and I'm not really violent with my peripherals or anything either. I can't seem to find any place on their website to reach tech support to ask about repairs/exchanges either.

I went to a simple Intellimouse with Intel eye whatever. It was as 3 button opitcal. That served me well untill I needed wireless. I went with the Logitech MX Duo, the 70 I think. It was a while ago now. Anyway, I've gotten good results with this wireless keyboard and mouse, even in the most twtitch type of first person shooter games.

heh, that's what i upgraded from. the keyboard would show lag, like back when i played bf2, go up to a vehicle and press button, then after a delay, you'd get into it. fear was another that delays on me, i think CoD2 also. i replaced batteries and tried both ps2 and usb and moved the base station closer. nothing. first i bought a new mouse, my first "gaming" mouse, MX518 for $40 at tiger direct. wow, just wow. incredible upgrade. as for the keyboard, i just used an old ass sony vaio keyboard from my old sony vaio p4 1.8ghz/xp/256mb and there is no lag. none. zip. nada. idk, i still loved the wireless mouse, you can't really like something wired if you came from using something wireless for a year.(come to think of it, the MX duo did last me a year, last december. holy crap)

Okay, call me crazy but I have tried all the following mice just this last week, especially with BF2 and FPS such as FEAR and QUAKE 4.
First of all, I am a corded mouse fan and have not been happy with mice such as the MX700 and MX1000 (a little too heavy) for gaming. I hope someone finds this helpful.
Logitech MX518 : 1600 DPI was too twitchy for me. I could never seem to settle in on a comfortable setting and seem to be "on target" consistently as with my Mx500 even with adjusting the settings. I liked the DPI switching but did not like not being able to see what the setting was at. There is no indication-you just have to remember. I also didn't really care for the glossy finish but that's a minor complaint.
Logitech G5: I did wish it had the 2 side buttons but I really am not missing the second one. Doesn't seem as twitchy to me as the MX518 but that's subjective probably. The new basepads are like butter on the G5 and G7. Best thing over the MX518 though is the DPI level indicator. The weight system is nice and is pretty secure within the mouse. You have to hold it up near you ear to really notice any slight jiggling in the weight compartment. I did the Logitech firmware update on the mouse even though I didn't have any problems with my Func Archetype MBA mousepad. Logitech's firmware update is very easy (I mention this as I will go into the Copperhead more complex update method-the Logitech was just: execute the firmware update program, it detects the mouse, updates, then asks for you to unplug/replug the mouse in and done.)

However, I have a very mixed reaction after testing the Copperhead. One, on installation, the mouse was identified by XP fine and worked but then I loaded the drivers, did a restart as prompted, but then the cursor wouldn't move, there were no conflicts in the hardware profile, I unplugged and replugged the mouse and it worked (I had to do this anytime I restarted for the mouse to operate). I was using the latest driver off Razer's site V6.09 and latest Firmware V6.17b . Their firmware update is complicated compared to Logitech's by far: so much so I'm too lazy to go through it so here's the link:

Okay, now that I got the mouse to work, here are my impressions using the 1000 Hz polling rate: the Razer seemed a little smoother then the Logitech's but it did not seem to be 2000 DPI as the Logitech felt way more sensitive at 2000 DPI than the Razer. Also, I could not figure out how to customize the DPI selection settings from the default of 400, 800, 1600, 2000 (I may be wrong on the 800 increment, it might be 1000 or 1200). I had assigned the DPI switching to the right side buttons and I selected one of the left buttions for on the fly sensitivity. For my hands which are probably a little larger than most peoples, I was okay with the size of the mouse at first but the side buttons just suck to operate and it turned out to be a little small as my right ring finger and pinky were in an uncomfortable position compared to the Logitech shape. I did like the finish/texture/grip of the Razer though-I wish they would make it a little larger though. Also the on the fly sensitivity did not really seem to affect things much compared to my experience with the Boomslang and is separate than doing the DPI switching, which results in a very noticeable difference. (I would think these could be tied together somehow (DPI/sensitivity) as the abiltiy to dial in on a 1 to 10 scale would be nice. Also, there is no indication when you switch DPI settings with the Razer.
Overall, I went with a G7: Yes, the cordless, no lag whatsover, and perfect weight for me. I was shocked personnally when I used it as I figured it would be too heavy have some lag or other quirk, but nothing. Great mouse, I'm now a believer. Battery life is good for the small batteries, about 2 days before it indicated critical battery and there are 2 included with the desktop charger (the batteries are very easy to change out).
Only negatives I have are the glossy finish and only one side button. If the G7 had 2 side buttons and the textured finish of the G5, it would be the uber mouse.
I have gone between all 4 mice in the last 2 weeks and the G7 is my favorite so far. The DPI indicating lights on the Logitech are helpful and the G5/G7 seem to be more sensitive at 2000 DPI than the Razer Copperhead (switching DPI settings on the Logitech's were more helpful when going from say being a sniper or wanting a lower DPI to fly with the mouse in BF2 than the Razer. The Razer's on the fly senstivity did not seem to have much of an effect and DPI switching using the righ side buttions (pinky side for me) was awkward). 2000 DPI on the Logitech's were way too sensitive for me but the 2000 DPI setting on the Copperhead wasn't. I'm using settings of 1400, 1200, 800, 600, and 400 on the G5 and G7.
I used mouse speed checker to check the polling rates and the Logitech came in at the 500 Hz they advertise. The Razer did indicate 1000 Hz but fluctuated to 300 and 500 often whereas the Logitech were pretty much 500 when tested. I think the smoother fell of the Razer was probably due to the higher polling rate.
In the past I have used the MS Explorer, Boomslang 2000, Logitech MX500, MX700, and MX1000 in addition to the ones above.
I wish logitech would got back to the rubberized finish for the next version of the G7. I think a there has been a photo as CES recently of a new color scheme for the G7 with a carbon fibre look to the mouse buttons and the rubberized texturing for the rest.
I think that if Logitech could release the MX1000 in a gaming version (making it the same weight as the G7 with the swappable batteries), that would be my perfect mouse (the uber uber mouse).
