I agree. There must be A LOT of lefties in the world and surely they are killing off a large userbase?
 
We only do it because we are forced to. Now I have used right hand mouses for so long it´s unnatural to use my left hand. But as for joysticks can´t fly with my right hand and can´t learn either. Thank god for Saitek or we would all be screwed there too.

yeah totally if it wasnt for my cyborg 3D Gold i would be struggling with a right handed joy stick.

Do you think that a petition to MS or Logitech would help?

Figured as much.

There are a lot of people who are left hand and want nice designed for them. More than 50k easily. Would be an interesting thing to pursue. Maybe if all the lefties on this site (and right handers who want to help their dexterously challenged friends) and other were willing to take petition to their offices, schools and colleges etc then just post em on to Logitech/MS. I am sure it could be done.
 
There could always be frivolous lawsuits where people with tendon damage in their left wrists sue mouse manufacturers for not making ergonomic mice for left handed people...

Heh, use my right hand for joysticks as well. I never even noticed all this until I read this thread.

Hey stupid...why don't you just call them?

Ok, I just did. Tech support said the new base wouldn't work with the wireless keyboard. And after reading ufokillerz post we all know that the new mouse works in the old base if you'd like to upgrade just the mouse.

They also said that there are current no plans for a new keyboard.

Hope I helped someone out other than myself. :]

It works great. I was using a MX500 before this. I can't tell the difference. If anything it's more accurate. I am not sure if that's the laser itself or just improved wireless technology in general. I can't say enough good stuff about this mouse.

About how much shorter is the MX1000 than the MX700? I love the lenght of the latter, one of the main reasons I like it's shape really... My freakishly long fingers could never rest comfortably on most other mouses.

The local CompUSA here has it for $85, they're selling the MX700 for $85 as well. The local CompUSA here in PR has some screwed up inventory (they never seem to lower prices on most old hardware, at all).

It's not that much shorter. Hardly noticable. And the local Comp USA here has them for $79.99.
 
Yes anything above the MX500 in precision you can hardly tell the difference in precision :)
 
Ugh, I tried out the MX1000 toay at CompUSA... It may have been the angle of the surface I was trying it out on or whatever but it just didn't feel as nice as the old MX700 I was holding right next to it.

First off, I've got really really long fingers, I dunno if that's the issue... But the MX1000 is slightly shorter and taller (the curve or mound it produces), which itself is not a big deal... But it's also somewhat more angled. It doesn't look that obvious at first but you can see it if you follow the way the line of the buttons' plastic goes.

I like the way it lets you rest your thumb on the extended rubber "ledge", but I really dislike the sharp edge that now recides where your thumb joint joins your hand tho. The MX700's dent isn't as deep or as sharp.

The extra buttons are in general easier to press than the MX700's diminutive buttons but again there's a downside... The space between the wheel and where the mouse edge ends towards the right mouse button seems to have shrunk considerably... If any of you own an MX700 you know the rubber grip extends a few cm beyond the right mouse button before it folds to the side.

On the MX1000 I found my middle finger and the one next to it kinda lacked space and it was uncomfortable... Maybe a lil' getting used to would fix it but upon first holding it, the thing didn't seem more comfortable than the MX700/510. Again, this is all from the pov of someone with fairly large hands and really long fingers.

Worth noting that the hardware specs on the box don't claim it reads any faster than the MX510, just slightly faster than the MX700 (5.2 vs. 4.7 or something like that).
 
They advertize it as being 20x faster or at least they used to...
 
I thought it was that the laser was 20x more accurate, not faster at reading. But, when you're talking that kind of precision, it's really not saying much unless you're doing graphics editing at 500% zoom at 1600x1200, I think.
