logical upgrade...or is it?

ok, my current card is in my sig. If I continue to stay on the AGP bandwagon, does it make sense to upgrade? More importantly is there an upgrade????--would I notice one is really what I mean.
 
Firstly, is that ab X800pro vivo?

If so, unlock that sucker.

And upgrade to what? Most upgrades right now wernt really be worth the money, it would be better to stick with your system for now, and go PCI-E when the R520s/G70s come around the corner
 
Is there anything you can't run to your satisfaction? If not then no, there is no point in upgrading. The only thing a newer card will get you is the ability to run slightly higher resolutions and higher levels of AA & AF. You have to decide if it is worth it to you. I have pretty much the same system you do and I would say it is not worth it.
 
no, its not a vivo...or you know I would have :)

Actually everything I play with the exception plays well--though this exception is what has be concerned.

I love BFV but on occasion I get some lag. Sometimes I think its my VC, sometimes I think its the connection. Either way, BF2 is what I plan to play and I want to be able to play it well.

I plan to milk my mobo and cpu setup as long as I can (754). Its plenty fast for everything else I throw at it. So AGP it is until such time that I do a total rehaul of my components.

I play at 1280x960 most times with most games with minimal AA/AF on. With my monitor, anything lower looks shitty of course.
 
lets say i could get 399 for it...then is there an option or is the money better saved?
 
Just save up for now, Your card is quasi-high end, so its fine, once you are ready to go PCI-E, sell the whole systems, etc
 
Yeah, no reason at all to sell that card or upgrade. You've got one of the highest end cards right now.

Do you lag everytime in BFV? If you do then it could be your video card, but since you dont its most likely a connection thing. Also, you'd experience any problem in other games, that card is plenty enough to run BFV in circles.
 
I dont think you could get more than250 for that card adn that's really pushign it.

You have current generation... wait until next gen comes out and decide then. Honestly, you are just going to spend money on speculation. BF2 isn't out, wait until it is, then decide.

Pausing in MP games is a fact of life... might look at other factors... doubt you video card is contributing to it very much (unless you are running 6x/16x).

ok....will there be any higher end AGP VC's out in the near future? Im thinking that there is still some life in my current rig, and though my intent is to start all over later, I know there are still local upgrades I can do that parrallell even those 939 socket MB's with PCI-E.

In a nut shell, if I decide to stay with this setup for a while (upgrading as far I can i the current mobo), do you think there will be a video market for me later?

AMD is going to stop making the A64's in s754 (last shipment in September I saw), so you're going to be "stuck" with either the Semprons or mobiles (if your MB supports them). New video cards are going to be PCI-E first, AGP second if they make an AGP version. I'd bet that you'll see one more round of AGP cards on the high end (r520/G70) and then some low end ones for a few years for those who refuse to upgrade :).

It will be around, but I think you'll have to wait a few months longer to get the cards than PCI-E and it will cost $30-50 more (high end) :rolleyes: . Case in point...X800XL.
 
Just dont bother with AGP anymore, theres a reason companies want to get rid of it,

It's cheaper to make PCI-E cards.

It can supply more power, and look at the connectores on an AGP8x card, notice the geometric type pattern? now look at the ones on an PCI-E card, see how the connectors are just straight? One is alot easier to make,

Plus, PCI-E can also be used for regular expansion cards, in theory, you can have 6 PCI-Ex16 slots on a mobo, and you can have the user choose between just having one card and using the slots for internet/sound card etc, or filling up those slots with video cards, and having ultra good AMR/SLI multi card goodness
