Is there any downside to loading games to an external SSD (connecting to comp via USB 3.0) - aside from space considerations?

If I was going to connect an SSD externally it'd be with eSATA.

I'm not real familiar with USB3 but I dunno if every SATA feature is passed by USB3.

USB3 would more than likely work but I don't see any compelling reason to use it over eSATA.

Any particular reason you need to do this?

I think (not 100% sure) that you dont get trim passed on USB3.

Just wondering. Got a laptop that I cannot have any games on. Wondered if I could have the games on an external drive, play them while at home & if anyone scans the laptop HD - no games...

I don't know if it's possible to do eSATA on a laptop - but this one has USB 3.0 - which is supposed to be pretty fast ...(ish)

I think it would really depend how "intense" that search is. I know you can create symbolic links for games on Steam and have your frequently accessed games on another HD, but those pointer references are still loaded on your main HD. Many games will also create some sort of folder structure with your "Documents" folder. If you really want to avoid any detection, I would install Windows on the secondary HD and simply boot from it when you want to play games. You can then install whatever games you want on there, and once you remove it, all traces are gone.
