I just upgraded to a athlon 64 x2 4800 and a arctic cooling freezer 64 pro. I'm not overclocking.

Idle cpu: 29-31 c

Idle system: 34 c

After gaming for an hour and ran the cpu burn-in for 15 minutes.

Cpu: 39 c
System: 37 c

To me this seems like great temps. What kind of temps are you getting?

How many fans are in your case and how are they setup? I have one fan in the front pulling air in, one rear fan pushing air out and one side fan pushing air out.
 
Opteron 144 @ 2.9Ghz

30c idle and 42c load normally (got it to 44 before, but after an hour of gaming its usually at 42)

on a Gigabyte Neon8 Cooler, 2 80mm case fans, and one 120mm case fan...
 
X2 3800 O/C 2.6ghz 1.45v. Runs Folding@Home client on 1 core (100% cpu) and Folding@Home GPU client on the other core (100%) with an x1950Pro video card. This stresses both the card and GPU to the max. CPU temp 47deg C with a stock 4 pipe cooler. Northbridge 38deg C. Ambient 23deg C. Case cooling is 1 120mm fan running on 7v and a slot cooler to pull the exhaust air from the Gpu cooler out of the case.
 
X2 4200 (65w)

27 idle, 36 load (factory heatsink)

2 - 120mm Antec case fans (Antec P180B), 1 exhausting, 1 intake. Set on lowest setting.
 
I guess this is as good of thread as any to ask this but when people list temps on this board are they usually referring to core temps (such as those obtained by coretemp or the newest speedfan)? I'm about to put together a system (opteron) and I have heard core temps are higher but I can't tell what program is being used to obtain the temp listing you see in various threads on Hardforum. Thanks for any help

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 + cooled by a Arctic Cooling Freezer 64

CPU Temps:

Idle: 27C
load: 39C

Mobo Temps:
25C

AMD Athlon XP 3000+

CPU Temps:

idle: 42C
load: 54C
 
x2 4400 @ 2.75ghz and 2 7900 GTOs @ 710/1430
CPU cooler = Zalman 9700
Case is XBLADE case with stock side fan and HD fan in front.
Rear fan is a fan off of the stock HSF from the x2 4400 pulling air out.
I actually tested several fans for the rear of the case. This seems to work the best out of all the ones I've tested. Weird huh...

CPU idle is around 34c and full load is around 48c.
While those temps might not seem GREAT, before the Zalman 9700, I was getting 42c idle and 62c at load. So yeah...it's alot better now.
The case I'm using, the XBLADE, is really not good for cooling I think and especially not good for 2 7900GTOs running in there. Case was alot cooler with only one GPU.
Bigger case made out of something better would be preferable. But ahh well...it's working.

39c after full on loading? No way, not with any air cooling out there, unless you are dumping very cold air into that case :p

Try using a program called coretemp....and check/monitor the temps during the load process, not after you have quit the game or app, since the cpu die temp drops faster than you can alt tab out or quit the program....

BIOS temps and other programs such as everest, mbm5, etc., use a conversion of the digital data sent from the cpu, to an analog output. NOT reliable, not at all. Use CoreTemp and you will see actual die temps, and most people are going to find that actual cpu die temps are going to be 10c-15c higher than what your BIOS or other app is reporting....

Very easy to do with a 65w chip. I use(d) coretemp to monitor my temperatures. See above. Even easier when you can undervolt the chip down to 1.1v @ 2.2ghz :D

Well, he didn't say it was full load - only that this temp was taken after gaming for an hour. Gaming doesn't necessarily apply a full load to the processor. My temps while gaming are a full 5-10 degrees C less than they are while running Prime95. It would be interesting to see how low the temps are while undervolting at 1.1v/2.2 ghz under Prime95. I haven't seen how low those 65w chips will be in that situation. How about it freeloader1969? It would be great to see your temps vs the normal wattage chip of the same spec.
 
You guys need to post ambient temps. It's the middle of winter... I've got my windows open and a CPU maxing out at 30C... with a 50f ambient though, lol.

BigMackAttack....I sold my setup to General on these forums just a few days ago. My setup consisted of the factory cooler with an ambient of 68 deg. F. The chip I had was fantastic. It could run SP2004 at 1.1 vcore (1.13 - 1.16 BIOS) for over 24 hours, perfectly stable and cool!

I'm looking forward to undervolting my 6600 on Xmas day just to compare...

Maybe I can convince General to do a bit of testing :D
