I am building PC and want to use Windows games. Has anyone had luck with newer games on Cedega? Or is it best to try VMware to run Windows?

You won't get 3d acceleration in VMware so it's useless to try to play games through that. That might change one of these years but it's not going to happen anytime soon that I know of.

I don't know about Cedega as I won't pay a monthly fee. Your best bet is to try your games through Wine to see if they are going to work to your expectations. If they don't work about the only other option (in my opinion) is to dual boot with Windows.

Check the transgaming cedega site for games that run. I know for example Call of Duty 4 runs in cedega/wine.

try in WINE first (it keeps getting better and better) if you have no joy with yr game in question try with the trial of Cedega ONLY then sub to Cedega

Cedega now severly lags behind WINE in directX capability and their only area they excel at is copy-protect.

I had tried Cedega a while ago and it was on again and off again, but I was never certain if it was my NVidia drivers updates that caused the problem. I had not tried it in WINE alone. I will have to try that next.

You could also always try a nightly-build or beta of Cedega if you are adverse to paying the subscription. It basically is fully featured, except for all the copy-protection checks/bypasses that they have to pay for, which is why you have to pay.

Don't try cedega, they have basically stopped putting money into it. I don't think they have had an actual update within the last year, only maintenance updates nothing more.

Does anyone know the difference between cedega and wine? I thought that cedega was built atop wine but with some extras thrown in to make more able to run windows games.

Cedega is based off a very old version of wine that was built years ago before the license change to lgpl.
