I just thought of a "great" idea... (bad one)... Since the ATX form factor uses a sense wire. all we have to do is link those sense wires, and we can use 2 crappy PSUs instead of buying a better one. ie. one for the MB the other for everything else... Opinions? curses? insults?, anyone? I need feedback :D
 
yes, this can and has been done, its not too special, and this is probably the 3rd thread on the topic for the last month the idea of dual PSUs is that you can run the usual stuff, and at the same time, run a huge raid array as well (saw on some forum, a guy wanted to run a 26 disk raid array for movie backups)

2 stupid brains linked does not make one smart one, just as dual 1ghz p3s does not equal 2 ghz

if you really want to, just cut the green and black wires off and splice them to the ones coming from the mobo, and you can have a dual psu setup

I am doing this very thing right now.... I have my 450W PCP&C PSU powering my mobo, 6800GT, 2 cd roms, and 3 hard drives. I figured it may be pushing it adding my 4 drive raid array to this. My PSU came with enough molex connectors (12 of them) to run all these deviced, expecially with the card, I thoguth ti may be pushing it, so I decided to rig my 430W cheap case PSU to run the 4 drive array. I dont know mucha bout splicing wires tho, and didnt want to fuck up my $200 PSU, so I did it a different way. To power on your PSU, the motherbaord crosses pin 3 and 4. All I did was take a speaker wire and put one end in pin 3 and 4 on my ATX connector. Now all I have to do is hit the power switch in the back and it comes to life. My computer never shuts off, it its ok to have the PSU always running the drives. The only probably I am having is right now I have the 2nd PSU outside my case. There isnt any room isnide, andyone got and ideas to make it fit? I was thinking the 3 available cd rom bays I have, but I PSUs blow alot of hot air, I dont want that blowing all over my CPU
 
depending on the construction of the PSU it may be possible to remove it from its shell
and use stand offs to mount it on the bottom of your case.

this is possible and has been done but make sure you have enough air flowing over it so that it dosent cook itself
 
Yep, it's do-able. I currently have a Pentium Pro 200 running of an L&C :eek: "300w" power supply topless, it doesn't get too hot at all considering the miniscule load it has on it.

and the Power Good to a ground (Grey to Black) on the slave PSU
