Light No Fire Announcement Trailer

No Man's Sky creator Sean Murray introduces a first look at Light No Fire which he calls the 'first true open world'...Light No Fire is a fantasy multiplayer game set on an Earth-sized virtual world, created using similar procedural generation tech as seen in the studio’s last game, No Man’s Sky

While No Man’s Sky has players exploring numerous planets, none of those worlds will compare to the size and density of the setting for Light No Fire...the game will feature multiple biomes, just like our Earth...

Hopefully it doesn't take 5 years after it releases to make good on his claims this time.

TBH, I love the idea of huge, days-travel biomes but the terrain variety looks pretty basic-bitch. The whole idea of such massive scale is to have massive scale setpeices that take ages to travel to, to loom in the distance, to have rolling hills visually turn into old-growth forest begging to hide secrets under it's canopy into massive snow-capped mountains with craggy paths...

But I just see perlin noise with foliage assets peppered on.

Anticipating the "harmonica" trailer for this, featuring the main tune from the lotr movies.

I mean, the trailer is showing a decent range, and my understanding is that it's going to be single planet but huge (there was mention of climbing mountains taller than Everest). Won't preorder (NMS and CP2077 finally cured me of that), but I'm cautiously excited. Hell, I'm willing to give a point for Rabbit-people that aren't cutsey...

It looks interesting. It sounds about as ambitious as the NMS was and I wouldn't be surprised if they work on it for years after launch too but hopefully it launches in a bit better shape.

It will be interesting to see how they handle quest design since NMS was pretty light on that sort of thing.
Light No Fire is a fantasy multiplayer game
Between the two articles I read and this I've seen it claimed that the game is multiplayer, co-op, and single player with co-op. I didn't see the presentation which might clear it up, as it is it's not obvious to me which is correct but NMS was closer to the latter so that's my guess.

I'm cautiously excited for this. I love how NMS turned out, fantastic time waster. Crossing my fingers for this one.

Just found out about this game. Looks amazing, any word of a release date?

So they announced this game 3 years ago, with little updates since ( good call actually )

But is there any hint of a release timeframe?

Is this like a year or so away? Or YEARS away?

Light No Fire and Riot's MMO are my two most anticipated game releases.

LNF is probably due out in Fall 2027 / Winter 2028

Riot's League of Legends MMO is probably a 2028/2029 release.

I doubt they will give a timeframe until they feel ready. I think they learned their lesson with No Man's Sky where a launch before it was ready really fucked them. Also they are, near as I know, doing good on money from NMS sales so they can afford to take it slow.

It also needs to be a decent release, because I'm not sure if people will give them a second chance. They had a great redemption arc with NMS and people see them favorably now, but if they release another disaster that might be fixed after years of development I don't know that people will give them grace a second time around, they may say "Well fuck these guys, they learned nothing."

Goes double since NMS was a "desperation genre" and Light no Fire isn't. People badly want the "truly galactic alternate universe I can escape in to" and go nuts for games that promise that. An open world survival game can certainly do well, but it isn't something people are pissing themselves like excited puppies over. So they will be less forgiving and less willing to wait years for updates for something like it. Much better to delay it until it is in a pretty good state.

Alsoalso, I suspect development has been slowed by continuing to work on NMS. They really seem to love the game and want to keep it going, but that does take dev time.
