Sierra Entertainment looks to be awakening from a long sleep it began in 2008, with its website suddenly springing back to life on Thursday with a very brief teaser trailer. More to be revealed at the upcoming Gamescom 2014 next week.

Not mysteriously,

Activision obviously used their insidious Necromancers & dark magic to resurrect them.

All that remains is an abomination.

Is it bad that this almost immediately came to mind?

Yeah I'm sorry this isn't "Legendary Sierra" coming back, this is the intellectual property and name of the company formally known as Sierra being brought back out because of name recognition by Activision.

Yes, too bad the original owners and developers aren't reappearing as well. Today would be the best time in tech history to bring back FMV games! That was a medium born 15 years too early--that died a very premature death. What they could have done with Phantasmagoria today with 1/4 the work would have been amazing. Ken and Roberta Williams checked out of life years ago it seems, into the magical fantasies of world cruises and other adventures only their well-earned millions of dollars could support. They could do things today that they only dreamed of doing during Sierra's heyday.

Sierra's name and logo attached to new website.

Sierra is dead, long dead and buried, I play their adventure games with my daughters. My heart swelled when my daughter asked me why they don't make games like that any more. I couldn't her that games like Kings Quest take a lot of art and new resources every time you want to make a game, "cowadoody" does not.

So I just told her that 20 year old boys don't like fun games.

Better fucking be for a genuine fucking tribes game.

Will never be the same without Ken and Roberta Williams :p

I wasted way too many hours as a kid playing the Hero Quest/Quest for Glory and Space Quest series. Wasn't quite as fond of Police Quest, but it was good too.

Never much cared for Kings Quest.

I ahve to say - however - that of the 90s adventure games, I think I liked Lucasarts games better than Sierra. Sierras 80s releases were great, but as time went on I found them less and less interesting.

Games like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, the Monkey Island series and Day of the tentacle are favorites of mine. I replayed DOTT a year or two ago, and it still measured up, despite the old graphics.

I think they're going to bastardize the franchises with pay to win versions.

Yeah!
Because we need more Leisure Suit Larry games for kids to crank off shots to because porn is just waaay too hard to find on the internet.

Kings quest, space quest, and barely leisure suit larry. Anyone wishing for something else was already used to a sierra that was dead.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the headline.

I just want a remake of tribes 1. never was a fan of the sequels

I do enjoy the sequels (still play Tribes Asend from time to time), but there was something special about Tribes 1. I'd like to see a remake.

I wonder if they will also bring back the Sierra tools utility that erased everything on the C: drive except the Windows\System folder.

Sierra + Source Engine 2 soft launch = Half Life 3 Confirmed.

Maybe we can get back some of the other old classic brands ... I would love to see SSI come back from the dead :)

No Ken and Roberta Williams? Not even Mark Crowe or Scott Murphy?

Well, it's not really Sierra is it. It's jut another zombie resurrected without any of the original talent. Games development houses are like bands, if you start it back up without any original members it's not the same.

It's not like the original people have imparted their creative genius to a new generation working the in same companies at their core genres.

In fact, just seeing that logo makes me angry. Which it shouldn't. It's a logo. But I have fond memories from my entire childhood of Sierra games branded with that logo and I'd rather not see it ruined for mere "name recognition."

But whatever. Let the game speak for itself. It'll either be awesome, or it won't.

Some of favorite PC games that got me hooked on to PC gaming came from Sierra. GLORIOUS!

Yyyyyeah...I can't...I mean...

No.

I refuse to believe.

(And I'll also reject a headline such as "LucasArts reborn from ashes, returns to glory days of adventure games and Star Wars flight sims!" The world...it's a cruel world, and such beauty will never occur, again...)

No!

It's a lie!
