Left 4 Dead FPS?

I am wondering what you guys are getting FPS wise on Left 4 Dead.
Please include:
* What card you use
* Resolution you play at

I am mainly interested in numbers for GTX 260s and GTX 260 SLi setups since that is close to my current setup. But if you have numbers for your card, please list them. Maybe this can be a reference to some people. Thanks.

Specs are in sig.
1680x1050, all maxed settings except AA turned down to 4x.
Multicore is disabled as it causes stuttering.
I get around 50-60fps constant, one occassion in which there was an explosion, fps dropped to 20, but nothing major, shot right back up after that.
If I enable multicore, fps is much high and much smoother.
This is probably due to the fact that the Source engine is very CPU dependent.

1920x1200; 80-90's, everything max except 2x AA, 4x AF. It will drop around 50's, which pisses me off, if I'm in a dark corner and everyone is firing without flashlights (this seems to really be GPU-intensive). Basically the more contrast, the harder the hit. On-screen fire + large open areas may drop me into upper 70's, low 80's :|

Just to give you an example, my bro just got a Q9550, running it at STOCK (2.83Ghz), and I'm pretty sure he's getting equal or better FPS than me. Legion's benches with a GTX295 (effort to take GPU out of the equation) somewhat confirms this. Just look at the i7 @ 2Ghz :(

1680x1050
GTX 260 Core 216 SC

Everything maxed out except 4x MSAA, Vsync on, Multicore off (gives me some weird input lag):
A pretty solid 60fps

1680x1050, 16XQ AA, 16X AF, don't know the FPS but playable without stuttering / slowdown. System in sig.

* 8800 GT 512mb & E8400
* 1920x1080 max details, 8x csaa, 8x AF, rarely drops below 60 fps.

E6600 @ 2.46ghz
8800GTS 512MB 1280x1024 4xAA 8xAF
It could drop to the 30s during massive zombie horde rushes.

1680x1050, max settings, 2x AA. I get about an average of 60 FPS. Some dips to around 40, but nothing major.

1920 X 1200, max detail, 4x AA, 4x Aniso
My FPS's stay pegged at 299 continuously. They never drop.

Core i7 940 @ 3.2GHz, 12 GB DDR3 Corsair 1600, SLI GTX-285's overclocked to 720 core, 3000 memory.

1600x1200, all settings maxed.

I don't know the exact numbers but the game is always smooth so my guess is around 40+ fps.

Lol dude, crank up your settings.. I can run 16x AA with one 280 @ 285+ speeds.

I'm running it maxed out at get 150+ constant.

I am runng L4D in single card mode because using SLI makes the game blue screen my machine after about 25 minutes.

2x 8800GT (670/1728/972)

1920x1200

Everything on max except 4xAA & 8xAF

I get big slow downs when molotovs cocktails go off and I have no idea why because everything else is pretty smooth.

Fire in general is pretty intensive. I would think with you being on a quad this shouldn't happen. I just figured it's b/c my dual-cores get maxed when that happens.

1680x1050, AA and all other settings maxed out.

60FPS constant (normally I turn VSync off, but I forgot to in L4D and it seems to be perfect without it, so I won't mess with it).

Q9300 @ 3.2 GHz
4870 1GB @ 830/1000
4 GB DDR2 @ 1066MHz

1920x1080 with the game maxed out... core i7 920 @ 3.8ghz with 6gb mem @ 1600, GTX260s (192core) in two way SLI.. I didn't take any actual fps numbers, but it was smooth as butter, even with tons of shit going on!

System in sig, playing at 2560x1600, 16xCSAA, all settings cranked. Generally I'm 120-150FPS, rarely I'll dip below 80FPS.

1920x1200, all options maxed, 8x AA, 16x AF - 60-120+, average around 70.

Athlon X2 BE-2400 @ 2.8, Radeon 4870 1Gb, 6Gb ram

1680x1050, AA and all other settings maxed out.

I noticed my game was a bit laggy with v-sync even though I got a constant FPS of 60. I turned it off and it was much smoother.. you should try it off and on to see what works best.

Okay, will do. I have an extremely low tolerance for FPS/lag issues, but I'll see how it is with it off.

I notice the same thing in Source games.

I used to get a lag with triple buffering on my 8800 GTS 640MB even in scenes where I was getting greater than 60fps, but it's totally gone with my GTX 260.

Vsync always causes mouse lag. Not due to an FPS drop.

E8400 and 8800GTX

Great FPS even on Dead Air when the plane crashes. Frames use to drop on that scene where I actualy noticed an FPS drop. When I went back to Windows XP that scene is smooth.

Oh and in XP I had to go back to the 178.24 drivers so I could have multicore enabled. The new nvidia drivers cause the video to freeze and sound to loop all the time while multicore is enabled.

This is fixed in 182.05.

Besides, you gain more from running the 180 series drivers (which have the problem) with multi-core rendering disabled so it doesn't affect you in 1 game (left4dead) than you do by going back to 178.xx for 1 games sake and losing performance in all games.

Thanks for letting us know, I'll try the 182's tonight then...

I'm running at 1920x1080 4x MSAA 16AF, All other options maxed.
E8400 & GTX285. I see fluxuation between ~70-120fps. I haven't got an avg yet.

With V sync, 1920x1080, max settings, 9800 GT, 182.05 drivers=

60 FPS all the time, other than a quick drop to 45 FPS due to load buffers....

1680 x 1050, 16X AF 8X AA, 8800GT 512's SLI, s939 2.2ghz X2, 4gb PC3200.

Pretty steady at 60-ish and peaks at 80-111 FPS regularly. Can get laggy when there are a shit load of infected on the screen. Runs very smooth with all in-game settings on max.

Maximum Setting with V-Sync ON @ 1920x1200 and FPS is always at 59-60 always.

It was worth it. Since I had no issues in any other game I played with the 178's. If its not broke. Don't fix it. I've learned not to update graphics drivers so often over the last 11 years.

That being said though... I noticed the 182.06's came out today so I'll go try em..

GTX 260

When it's calm, my FPS is happily chilling in the hundreds; maybe if the game is feeling spunky it will drop my FPS a smidgen under 60 for a brief moment when shit is hitting the fan as hard as it possibly could.

It's probably above 60fps 90% of the time.

I'm using some ancient 180 drivers though, one of the first sets, so I think it will help a tiny bit more if I switched over to the newst ones. Maybe I'll up the CPU clocks a bit more, but the game really can't be THAT cpu bound with 4 cores...

1440x900, 4xFSAA, 16xAF, everything else as high as it goes.

Q6600@3GHz
4GB RAM
8800GT@711/1700/1000

Lows:30's
Highs:90-100s
During normal play I usually see ~60

Played on a friends system with a vanilla GTX260 that was achieving much higher FPS yet playability was not at all affected for the better.

*hugs my 8800GT*

main rig asus 4850 512mb,maxed graphics, 8xAA 16xAF @ 1680x1050 v-sync off, multicore enabled, never below 60 and spikes to 150, prolly averaging 80-100fps. Dead sexy!

my back up rig 8800gs @ 1440x900, 4xAA 8xAF, v-sync off, multicore enabled, dips to 45 under big horde, but, stays around 60-70 with ocassional spikes over 100. Very smooth.
