the 360 only support 16 gb partition on external drives.
probably just easier to fix your network issue...
network issue is that my network is too slow to stream 1080p content, I plan to upgrade to gigabit, but iirc the 360 only has a 100mbps adapter built-in...

probably just easier to fix your network issue. what is your network issue anyway?

Oh and 100mbps network is perfectly fine for 1080p playback. So i don't know why you are having problems there. I used to have my 360 connected to a wired network and streamed 1080p content fine over cable.![]()
No offense but wrong. Sorry but the 360 only supports 16gb if you want to use the usb drive for save games or installing them (which is an intentional limitation to help sell MS HDD's). If you only want to use the usb drive for media you can use any size you want.
I use a 80gb external 2.5" drive (from a broken mp3 player) for my media and it works brilliantly and have used a 500gb network drive too.
Speaking from a 360 point of view. You can use any size USB drive for media storage. The 360 will see all of it. My drives were NTFS formatted too.
Don't have a PS3 but i don't see why you couldn't use the exact same drive for both consoles.

Ah, well that is retarded. I tried saving media and games on the same drive with my 360 sssooo... Glad to see MS is keeping everything logical.
Video and Audio get out of sync. It starts out fine, but by the end of the movie you hear a character's line usually after the actor says it... (PS3 is far worse, within minutes it starts happening and quickly gets to the point it's completely unbearable --- though to be fair this was over wifi, only within the last week wired the PS3 when my wifi router locked it out for currently undiagnosed reasons)
hey, I have a 20gb HD on my 360, I'm glad to hear I *can* add a 16gb for games! makes traveling/storage a lot easier ^_____^
I do agree it's retarded though.
Video/Audio out of sync isn't likely a network problem - it's usually a decoding/transcoding problem. Your files will probably either not play from the USB drive, or will display the same sync errors. Network errors manifest with buffering and choppiness issues.

video / audio sync issues are caused by the converting software. placing the file on the HDD and streaming it from there will NOT resolve the issue.
100mbit is enough bandwidth to stream a full 45Gb bluray disc. Wifi probably wont, what speed is your Wifi? Probably 50mbit I'm guessing.
How do you stream anyhow, do the consoles do the actual decoding here? If they do it could be an incompatible codec or they may not be decoding it fast enough to keep it all in sync. I don't know much about console HD playback I'm afraid.

its also caused by the bitrate being to high for the console to render/decode.. which is why a lot of people do transcoding to 8mbit bitrate or lower.. at least thats the limitation ive found with the first gen 360..
