Large, open computer desk?

A bit off-topic from the actual hardware, but does anyone have suggestions on a large, wide, open computer desk? Being tall and klutzy, I prefer open spaces and flat surfaces, and often have used simple banquet tables as computer desks. I'm looking for something like that: four legs and a surface, but something dressier, perhaps with very slim drawers for "things."

I found this, and it is perfect, but the price is... substantial. I'd love to have a less expensive version of the same thing:

Any suggestions or recommendations? For people who have similar leanings, what are you using right now? (Aside from banquet tables from Staples/Office Depot.)

Take a look at this.

I have two of these that I put in an L-shape so I could fit my three monitors I use for Nvidia Surround. But one of them is very big on it's own. I only got two because I have 3x 30" monitors and I also wanted a palce to put my computer and also having room to work on other stuff. I know it doesn't have open legs, but the size is so large that it feels very open.

Amen to the IKEA Galant- you can do a lot with it. It is strong, easy to move, assemble, disassemble and you can tuck your wires behind the back frame with zipties. If you need more space, you can add the large insert and/or the quarter rounds on the end.

Another vote for the Galant stuff. Holds up a lot better than most Ikea stuff, it's height adjustable, it has a 10-year warranty on it, and it's fully modular if you need to expand. Definitely one of the best options if you're just looking for a nice big flat surface.

I can vouch for that Signum cable management doohickey. I fitted one to my Jerker desk (an absolutely legendary Ikea comptuer desk which was, sadly, discontinued years ago). It's worked well.

When I got a roommate, the Jerker was no longer available, so we got a Fredrik for her computer. However, that Fredrik was a little different than the version offered today. Her Fredrik had two sets of shelves and a removable drawer, as well as the basic desktop.

The Fredrik offered now doesn't seem to have the extra monitor & media shelves as even an optional add-on. Guess you'll need a monitor stand/arm if you go with an Ikea Galant or Fredrik.

It's nice to even have Ikea as a choice. My nearest Ikea stores are both ~400 miles away. If you've ever tried to order something from them online, you understand why I say they're not an option.

I like the Ikea Fredde too: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50219044/

It does have a shelf for your monitor, and platforms for other stuff (small printer etc.). Does cost a bit more than the other options though.

Just get a table top from ikea and pick 4 legs. It's exactly what you want and cheap as hell.

then get 4 of these

There are different sizes and colors of table tops so choose accordingly.

The Gallant while more expensive looks to be more sturdier but I have 3 monitors on the above table top and it's fine.

I bought one of their wooden countertops, and then used 1 inch galvanized pipe from home depot for the legs. Same idea, but it looks really pisser tbh. Plus it's super sturdy for that heavy countertop. Just another option.

But I agree with "forget buying a desk" especially if you're tall like me. Just buy the top, and get legs/pipes for the height you want. (For the first time in my life, I can actually use a keyboard tray)

Another vote for this. They also have a handful of cabinets/drawers/cubbys that can be substituted for two of the legs, if you so desire.

I've got the table and two of the legs mentioned above, and I'm using this under it in place of the other two legs: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40162496/

How do you mount your monitor? Just sit it on its own stand? I'm a little OCD about having as much space as possible, which is why I like my Jerker. It has a shelf on which the monitor sits, leaving the *entire* desktop free.

If I ever have to use a different desk for some reason (e.g. I lose the Jerker to a house fire), I'll probably mount an LCD on an adjustable arm. Several of my coworkers have those here in the office, and it's a pretty badass system. Also follows my aforementioned OCD regarding desktop space.
