hi

Currently i have a Toshiba x205-S7483 with a :

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5450 o 1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB

i also have a hp dv6 1129TX with:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13GHz 2.13GHz

is it possible to switch the processors between these two computers ( are they compatible) and if so how much would this cost (about) at an average computer shop. If i did this how much more of a performance boost could i expect on the x205 which has:

4096MB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8700M GT, 256MB GDDR2 discrete

graphics memory, plus up to 255MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory

cheers

You need to tell us what game(s) you'd be playing and the specs of the first computer to see if there would be much of a difference... Some games are cpu/ram/gpu limited and which one depends on which game. Honestly after doing a switch like this once myself I can tell you it's probably not worth it. Most computer shops wouldn't do a switch like that and it would almost certainly kill the warrany on both machines. The risk of killing the machine isn't really worth the money you'd pay them. On the toshiba I did it on, I had to take apart the entire laptop and remove around 40 screws to do it. This was just swapping out the processor included with a new one. It's possible that the models you've mentioned make it easier to get to the cpu but I doubt it and the job will be a huge pain.

just for any games i spose particuarly newer games gta 4 etc
i can almost play all new games on my x205 but it really is the processor holding me back. how much of a boost would i get from adding the P7450 to the x205 system. Is the P7450 compatable with the x205. Yeah i really hear what your saying bout the problems dissasembling the laptops. i know it is possible with the x205 but and unsure with the HP ( if anyone knows thatd be great.)

They're based on the same socket so it should work. As for a performance boost, probably around 5% to 10% at most in games. Most computer shops will not do a CPU swap between laptops. Most laptops can be disassembled but the difficulty of doing so varies from laptop to laptop.

Probably not, laptops do thier sockets differently than desktops.
