I am connecting my HP laptop via HDMI to a Pio receiver. When I streamlined web video, the TV video is fine but the sound only comes out of the laptop.

Do I miss something or need to have another cable somewhere?

Thanks for the help.

Interested in this as well. I've heard some have been able to get sound over HDMI by having the HDMI plugged in and the TV turned on before booting up the laptop, but it's never worked for me (HP laptop too)

Subscribed to see if there is a solution.

Did you set sound to go out through the HDMI port? It won't just do it automatically.

It should show up under the list of playback devices in Windows. You may need to set it to SPDIF if HDMI doesn't show up. If your laptop is older, it also may not support audio over HDMI.

Control panel> Hard ware and sound> sound

In there you should see a load of different playback devices. Set HDMI as default (right click set as default). then open the video. If you open it before changing to hdmi it will still use the original.

Like it says above it might not pass sound down HDMI. Also check your TV settings to have the sound source as HDMI.
