Laptop Shuts Down While in BIOS

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv6z-3000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.
The Battery in my laptop is dead.
The indicator light on the laptop for the power cord blinks.
Recently my laptop has been acting strangely. Sometimes it will freeze in the BIOS before loading up windows (I'm unable to access the boot menu or system info) and after a minutes or so the screen will flicker and it shuts down.
Other times when I can access the boot menu or system info in the BIOS or try and run a Disk Check after a minute its shuts down.
Sometimes in the BIOS the screen goes blank and it makes beeping noises.
The laptop works if I unplug the power cable and press the power button then plug it back in and power it up. It will load windows and work fine, however I cannot restart my computer (I have to shut it off take the power cord out etc.) in order to turn it on.
I don't know what the problem is and was wondering if just replacing the battery would fix it.

Thank you for reading and any helping you can provide.

Remove all peripherals and HDD/DVD drive. If the problem still persists, I would guess it is the memory or northbridge.

I did have a similar problem with a Dell laptop once though where it seemed to hang indefinitely at the BIOS also. Surprisingly though, pulling the battery out, draining the caps, and then restarting again solved it on the first go...

Hard to pinpoint the exact problem, I'll give you a few suggestions.

See how it works without any battery for a while.

I would also check if it acts the same with the HDD removed. Some faulty HDDs make the BIOS freeze or act up.

If you can get into Windows, use a temp monitoring program (like hwinfo64). If the temps are above 70 C while (say) watching videos on youtube, you should consider cleaning it. Most laptops shut down when they overheat. This wouldn't explain the BIOS acting up, though. Be careful; the HP Pavilion dv6 series (at least those from the Core 2 Duo era) have a known video chip problem, namely if the solder between the chip and the mainboard gets damaged due to heat, it is impossible to repair in a way that lasts.

So recently I checked the Hard Drive for errors by plugging it into another computer which fixed the bios hang. But I still have an issue, where if windows does not boot fast enough or i decide to go into the bios menu (and spend some time there) my laptop will just lose power and shut off. Is this an issue with not having a battery or something else. The laptop runs fine as long as it can boot windows (get past the splash screen) .

Appreciate any help

If you make it into windows will it lock up if you do something processor intensive? E.G. overheat

I had a problem similar to this where it would start loading windows and never finish. It turned out one of my sticks of RAM was bad.

You should run Memtest86 to test for RAM errors. Then you'll know for sure. If it's not the hard drive and it's not the memory it's probably not repairable.

That is unless you buy a motherboard off eBay (if you do this it has to be the exact same model), which is probably not worth it and a huge hassle. If it's built anything like the HP dv2000 I used to own the build quality isn't very good and you'd have to be very careful during disassembly because they're held together with a lot of plastic clips.

I have an Asus ROG laptop that does the same thing. After much testing, I have basically narrowed it down to the motherboard being bad.
