im need new of a laptop for school and want it too be around 1000$ cheapers better though ;D

i wouldn't mind being able to game a bit on it but its not needed i just want a good sturdy laptop, my friend suggested the dell xps 1530 what do you guys think?

I'd pay attention to http://www.slickdeals.net/ for some good laptop deals. As far as that XPS goes, I think the screen resolution is a little low, and the GPU is kinda weak for 1000.

I just bought a HP Pavilion dv6700t Special Edition series with twice the video memory as that XPS and comparable other parts for 663$ after seeing the coupons on slickdeals. It also had 1GB more memory and an integrated webcam and fingerprint reader. Keep your eyes open for special promos, you can do a lot better for 1000.

I just went through this with my nephew who starts at SIU this fall. We selected this Acer. It has great specs, a solid brand, and was only $649. That was a month ago, its $749 now. :( You may want to keep an eye on it. I suspect they'll be running a sale on notebooks as the term starts.

ok, im looking at the HP dv5t now...

for 1224$ i get:

* – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
* – Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
* – 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050)

* – 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
* – 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* – Webcam Only
* – HP Color Matching Keyboard
* – 802.11b/g WLAN

* – No TV Tuner w/remote control
* – 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
