In your own subjective opinion:

Would a top end Centrino work better than a high end P4 (ie. 3.06 or 3.2ghz) or would a A64 be a better choice?
Is the mobility 9800pro a lot better than the mobility 9700pro? I recall the [H] review some time back showing performance much higher... but does that justify the much higher price or is a nvidia gfx card better (which one)?
Would a 7200rpm drive work well enough compared to a 5400 rpm to justify noise increase and battery life decrease?
Is a 17" widescreen worth it to a 15.4" wide?

Yes, this will be for gaming as well as work. Battery life is not top priority, but a couple of hours would be nice.

17 vs 15.4 is a question of how big you want to carry it around. Go to a store and get a feel for different sizes

and sonoma + x700 is what Im aiming to get in a month or so.
basically theres a bunch of stuff thats going to make laptops a bunch faster coming out in the next month. SATA w/ NCQ will help a lot with 5400 rpm HDDs too.
