Im looking for a lightweight, aluminum case that supports the following:

- full size ATX
- 3 optical drives
- floppy
-front mounted USB
-4 hard drives (right now I have 3... but I might want to add more)
- <$150

this case will replace a Xaser3 which is a HUGE pain to bring to a LAN party or move in general. the following components will go into it.

-ABIT IC7-G max2 advance
-pentium 2.8C (with aftermarket cooler...havn't figured out which one yet)
-1Gb Cosair XMS CAS 2
-ATI RADEON X850pro ( may get a cooler for this)
-2x WD SATA 80gb
-1x Maxtor 4Gb ( my linux playground...I know...just don't have a bigger drive yet)
- Sony DVD burner
- sony floppy


I would like it to look nice, but not cost too much. I would like lian li but can't afford it... side window is a plus as is 120 mm fans. I would like it to be as small as possible...

I should also say that it has to look really nice but not flashy... good airflow...

not a tsunami! ( brother-in-law has one...cant rip off of him even though I got him into tt!)

the other main build im concerned about is a case I picked out for a friend of mine... el cheapo case but flashy... i think its an Xblade. everyone LOVES his cheap case and my $150 xaser is getting too old and bulky..and boxy...and loud...(7 case fans).

It also needs to be something I can put the parts in really neat...really clean, with space for insulation.

in short...

-looks awe-inspiring (or can look)

-quiet

-cheap

-light
 
Check out the Bob Slay at mountain mods. It's a perfect lan case...either that or the Antec SuperLanboy is also nice.
 
I just realized you said you would like a Lian-Li, but can't afford it. There are plenty of cases under $150. The cheaper ones actually have a 120mm fan in the front, and you could probably find a windowed side panel, or you could always do it yourself and make it whatever you want.

 
CM Original Praetorian = clean, no frills but sleek. 80mm fans (100-120)
CM Praetorian 730 (Black or silver) = "wavemaster 2", some lights, 120mm front, 2x 80mm back, optional 120mm on the side panel. (150 though, cheaper at some other places)

That case is so bad looking and cheap, i wouldnt take it if it was free. Not that my Tusnami dream is any better!
 
im liking the super lanboy...I just have one major question

- what CPU cooler would be good with it? Im thinking of using a ninja with a 120mm fan but I will be moving it every once in a while and is there any problems with weight?

Im thinking of getting it at performace-pcs.com ( so I can get my cpu cooler, northbridge cooler, modular power supply at the same place)

- What is "heatshrink"?
 
Usually referring to the the plastic/rubber sleeves you put around powersupply wires when sleeving them to stop the cables from frizzing. When you heat it up, they shrink. That should be what your talking about :confused:
 
Do they sleeve your psu? The sleeving color means the actual sleeving, the heathsrink color is referring to the "heatshrink" they put at the ends to stop it from frizzing.
 
the regular Lanboy is black with no window right? Does it still have 2x120mm fans?
 
They charge you like 30 to sleeve all interior cables for a case excluding a psu and then 50 to sleeve a psu.

Original LANboy is silver, very thin aluminum, with a window, and 2x80mm fans. There's one right next to me. I've had it since May '03, and though a couple sites still have them, they're not made anymore. Although Aspire and Chenbro and the like have different cases based on the same chassis.

I, and 2 of my friends who copied my choice after seeing it ;) , also give the recommendation to Antec Super Lanboy. I loved using it, because it just fit the bill in every need that i had : the side-slide-mount drive bays, 2 small and 3 large bays, that little box to carry screws and other things conveniently in, and the window isn't just a flat piece slapped on. It gives you just the room you need to get everything you need in very neatly. Yes, the aluminum is a bit thin (VERY lightweight), but its also very sturdy, especially as you start putting things together. The carry strap is a nice bonus too. Here's 2 pics of mine just before i built this new rig..

The Super LANBoy just never clicked with me. The case is, without a doubt, nicer on paper than my original... but (OPINION) that front is just ugly as sin! It's so gaudy and awkward. I want the features of the case but I simply cannot look at that every day.

Anyway the rig in my LANBoy is an Opteron 165, 2x512MB TCCD, 7800GT, etc. I don't want to get too detailed and hijack. Purple lighting and fans are all CoolerMaster. EDIT - and thank you very much. :)

When I first saw this thing at Fry's one day I thought that the plastic front fan grill was ugly...but after using it and switching out parts here and there Antec really did get all the insides right...though if they did another version I would hope they make it stronger. It comes with a case strap!

The Antec Sonata or Sonata 2 should also be in your consideration.
 
Antec Super Lanboy is not a bad case at all. Its a pretty strong case, but I just wish it was stronger.

Seriously, best case i've ever owned. When I build my dads work computer i'm almost tempted to use a Super Lanboy, but its just not meant for a work enviorment, its more for a fun/play enviroment.
 
My only problem was the blue LED fan which I had to shut off at night when going to bed because it was just too bright. Other than that, I had no problems. It was sure light enough, and easy to work in (a lot easier than my P180 that's for sure).
