Lagging CPU?

I know that sounds kinda wierd but was more of a title :p.

I was wondering as I have a Q9550 and I think its beefy enough to handle this.

I have a logitech elite keyboard that has a volume knob on it that when spun will show green volume lines accross the screen as you twist it left to right (volume up and down). On a clean system on my Socket 754 system it wouldn't lag at all.. Unless something cpu intensive was causing "what i can only explain as lag" on the volume knob that is controlled with software from the keyboard.

With my Q9550 and My e1200. They both lagged. What could the problem be!

Stupid question, but have you (re)installed Logitech's SetPoint (or equivalent) software for your keyboard?

Yeah, I did twice before reformatting as I love my system to work perfect and wanted to have a clean system.

original cd that came with it? The only thing i can think of is something with sp2 or sp3 but i mean how could that be to... I don't know other than that. I know it's software ... are at least i think it is. Could my keyboard be running in a lower usb setting or something causeing lag is what i thought. but the keys type fine. no lag whatsoever. I installed striaght from the cd. I also updated it from the website with no change whatsoever with the problem. Remeber this is on a clean system with no other problems whatsoever. I reformatted and reinstalled to get rid of any bugs 1 week ago and from day 1 it was the same.

All i can say is that it is doing exactly this.

The volume wheel is a story in itself. It's big, and it spins, and has many fine steps which are all pretty loosely defined. Firmer action would have been nice! Spinning the wheel too fast makes the volume update lag behind and can cause you to "overshoot" the desired setting. Waiting for it to clear up only takes a second or two, but it's still mildly annoying. Spinning the wheel slower is of course also an option. The onscreen graphics for all the multimedia keys is so big and irritating there's no way you'd ever want to have it enabled, so it's a good thing it can be turned off.

But for a fact I know that with sp1 on a socket 754 system it didn't lag at all. I know for a fact it doesn't as i can plug it in now and it works no lag. I plug in my new machine it does. WTF

I understand that genral use of quirks will scale across whoever buys the same product. but me and my Friend bought one and his is the same way on his newer machine. but the older machine it works fine on. Any ideas!

The reason I know it's software is becasue or a bogged down cpu is becasue. My mom had a pentium 1 running xp that would lag tremendously during 2002-2004 with this keyboard.

isn't that keyboard like five years old? I remember having one with my original Pentium 4 (as in 180nm) box, and the thing died around the time I made the upgrade to Athlon64
I ask because the software might be equally old and deprecated (its amazing how resistant some developers are to ever updating/fixing their stuff)

volume control on keyboards usually isn't "perfect", its not like an analog mixer where you touch, it responds

I wouldn't worry too much about it, as I'm really doubting its an issue with your Q9550, is the BIOS setup for USB KB through BIOS or through OS? how about any sort of I/O "stuff" (like InputDirector, which can rain down no end of hell if improperly configured)? etc

Yah thats the one! I can't find one that I like that looks as good to me... (that works as far as ease of use and I love the layout of it). To be honest it is time.... but ive bought a nice microsoft keyboard and several other ones that people reccomend. I can't get over the ugly factor(to me) of the newer G(whatever) logitech keyboards. My keyboard works perfectly so each and everytime I replace it i give my newer keyboard to a family member and go back to this one. ive polished almost every key from typing...Cold DEAD FINGERS is what it would take...... Not by choice as i can't find anything that looks as good to me that is as comfortable. To me it has the old fashioned click but gives a little and doesn't make that much noise plus it has a big volume knob which is my main concern. Plus looks good.

I have a ps2 adapter that came with it and ive tried both and it seems to do the same for both systems equally.(no diffrence). I know that when i have a lot of free cpu usage on my 754 system its no lag i can move the thing really fast and it doesn't lag at all. on my newer system it will. I'm using XP which was out during the time it was released so... I'm not sure wheather it's my chipset or patched software (xp (SP2-SP3)...

? any suggestions on this are a good keyboard! might as well keep trying I'll keep this one for my older rig
