Me and 2 buddies just did a 3 day marathon in L4D2. None of us had ever seen it before.

Wow, just wow. This is probably the best entertainment experience I have seen. All the extra character voiceovers (some of which are funny as hell) and the use of music is just top notch.

I think what really cemented it, so we are in this park you see, looks like the outbreak interrupted a wedding reception. My buddy walks up to this amplifier stack. He's like "hey, you can use this thing" lol.

Of course next thing you know "save me some sugar" is blasting all around the park, oh shit, this is not going to be good. We hole up in the gazebo with plenty of propane tanks and the horde arrives just as a violent thunderstorm hits.

Lightening if flashing, it is pouring rain, the midnight riders are jamming their asses off and we are making smoking piles of brass. When that scene was over we just sat there looking at each other with our mouths hanging open in disbelief, like, did that really just happen?

Anyway, wow, we had an absolute BLAST playing this game. My hats off to the developers on this one.

Yes, I'm a huge fan.

I think I prefer the gameplay of the original L4D more however... it's a bit less frustrating.

And let no one tell you any different. It's just a fun ass game man.

I miss the marathons in L4D1 & 2. 1 feels a bit more like the classic zombie movies but 2 is at least as much fun and that is saying a LOT. Hard Rain is my favorite, especially with the squalls.

Tons of really awesome, hectic moments throughout the games.

I bought L4D2 back at launch and never played it once. Didn't even bother installing it. Odd for me, as I would consider myself to be a Valve fanboy. I guess my backlog is just too massive...damn you steam.

I'm kinda backwards... Half-Life is on my backlog, due to L4D. Damn you zombies.

Left 4 Dead 2 is my most played Steam game as far as hours go. However, eventually I got burned out and moved on to other games.

L4D2 Is one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played. I love the fact that you absolutely have to use teamwork or else you are screwed. Of course, if you are on a terrible team than you will probably hate the game (I always do when that happens). But overall, It's a game i always recommend to friends :)

we were floored

best game any of us had ever played

yeah, I've got about 1200 hours in that game. Still play it now and then but my new full time job makes it hard. Versus mode is the best if you have an all friends game going.

Check out a few of the sound packs when you start getting a little bored to help breathe a bit more life into the game. I used to play with the Randy "Macho Man" Savage pack and the Tourette's Tank pack, but I imagine there are a number of options by now.

Now try the Lord of the Rings - Helms Deep Mod. It is seriously one of the best mods i've ever seen for the game.

L4D2 was absolutely awesome. I used to play it daily for an entire school year basically while in college with a few buddies. We just couldn't get enough of it.

Randy Savage pack is hilarious, to say the least :D

L4D is an amazing series. I bought both on day their respective day one launches, but it was months before I even tried the first one. Then I fell in love...

Hard Rain has the best rain/storm in a game so far.

Hard Rain was BEAST! But hard as crap on Expert.

It's ok... i love the coop aspect, but its hard to find people worth playing against in VS mode. Bunch of trolls, ragequitters etc.

agreed. l4d2 is probably my most played game but the trolls, hackers, and ddosers are slowing speeding up the death of this dieing game.

and no offense to any new comers, but the steam sales have also ruined this game. people who have never played the game before, just jump right into versus mode.

Agreed. It really brought the immersion level up and made you feel more vulnerable. I can only imagine how badass dynamic weather like that would be in something like Mechwarrior Online.

I don't remember which L4D i played, but it only had like 4 weapons. Does the newest L4D have more variety?

L4D2 has a variety of new weapons, including a whole new category of melee weapons (katana, tonfa, golf club, etc.) and a bunch of new firearms.

The downside to that is that there are situations where you'll need to have a melee weapon (and forgo those wonderful double pistols), but also there are a bunch of new crappy firearms (like the one w/ the silencer)... which you can be stuck with for a LONG time.

630 hours but I haven't played it since more than a year. spent most of the time in a versus server with a buy system.

Amazing game. Hard Rain and whatever that bridge level are are some of my favorite gaming moments ever. Particularly the part in hard rain where not only is it raining balls, but you're walking through the cornfield...creepy.

If you can play with 4 people you know who can play it seriously on expert, it's amazing. With pubs, it can be terrible.

The bridge level is called "the passing" and it is the one with the wedding reception gazebo...just awesome.

+1 on double pistols and infinite ammo FTW

On another note, I am starting to have a serious suspicion that Ellis might be gay.

Think he's got something for that biker dude?

I think the other guy may have been referring to "The Parish" level. There are two big bridge scenes in L4D2.

Well, first he was saying that if it was physically possible he would bear Jimmy Gibbs Junior's children. Then last night he was proposing that he and Nick get matching tattoos.

Well he does have that thing for Zoey.

I just play Rochelle. This way if I die, I don't feel so bad. We all get a 5-min break from her yappin'.

I think my favorite quote is when they get to the Tunnel of Love and Coach says, "This is some crazy ass world we live in now..."

Steam says I have over 1000 hours in both games combined.

It is just so easy to jump in for 30 mins, play a chapter, and then do something else.
I picked it up a few years back on a steam sale and it's been my go-to game. All those hours and "maybe" I'm adequate at VS. Not much better than when you finally get a good game of vs. going and it comes right down to the end and a few points.... multiplayer magic.

Same. Own both, play L4D more though. Got 4 servers running of which have served about 12k players in the past ~4 months. I was ranked #1 in my servers stats, but I think since I haven't been playing much lately I've dropped to like 4th place now. :(

Been playing 10 vs10 for more than a year, still addictive.

When the first series came out, it gave me the best co-op experience I ever had. Once you get used to killing hordes and hordes of zombies, well, it can get old.

I have been playing on this server http://gamerscoalition.com/gcforums/index.php?/forum/331-left-4-dead-2/ It is one of the most popular 10 vs 10 server and It has a competitive scene going on so, you can join us up once you feel like you are ready.

Agreed on best co-op experience but all real players spent 99% of their time in VS. Thats where all the juice is. I used to play in tourneys that got recorded and posted before twitchtv and friends took off. Unfortunately, in retrospect that's what burned me and most on my clan buddies out because its just nerve racking doing 4v4 tourneys and almost not enjoyable.

With enough hours in VS you reach a certain critical mass where the game is formulaic, everyone knows every chokepoint and instant kill spot and what to expect from the other team where and whats spawned and whats going to spawn next and a point comes where the game's determined by which team simply made the least mistakes and its all very predictable. To put it bluntly, its like Dragon's Lair or Tap Tap Revenge where success is determined by "the right button at the right time".

Still fun to pub stomp once in a while though, but I'll be honest, the 360 version is much less of a headache since hacking/aimbotting/lame ass server mods really ruin the PC version - and I played both platforms extensively and all the tourneys on the PC version and avoid the 360 for everything else but this game.

Side note, I've noticed how having played L4D makes you a better Borderlands2 co-op player since you instinctually drop what you're doing and run to revive as soon as someone goes down. Drastically different games but the revive mechanic shares similarities.

And FWIW really wish we'd seen L4D3 by now. The current wave of hackey games trying to cash in on the zombie wave is f-ucking embarrassing. L4D was doing zombie apocalypse before it was cool. And unlike the current crop, did it right.

Would love to see this, maybe in Source 2? Much larger environments, even higher zombie counts...zombie bodies pile up and start blocking your bullets?

Man that'd be great, I hope left 4 dead 3 is a little more robust and advanced. That'd be awesome. I kind of always wished they'd bite you, instead of punching you to a pulp.

Definitely my favorite COOP game. I think I have almost 700 hours on it, but I know people with about 2,000 so I don't feel so bad. haha
