KRK Setup question.

I'm planning on picking up 2 KRK 6inch rokit and will be using them with my new rig. It's going to be between the
Sound Blaster X-FI or the ZXR. What would be the best outcome and what cables will I need?

Well it depends. What are you using this for mostly? Games, music, movies?

The ZxR is probably the best. There is really a very minor difference in sound bw it and the Zx though.

If you are mainly gaming I would just get a Zx and either pocket the change or spend more money on better speakers or a sub woofer.
 
I would use these for everything from my desktop. Like you said, games, music, movies and I fool around with ableton here and there.
 
Well if you are on a budget and want to keep it all desktop friendly, I would get the Zx and a sub woofer for best results around the same price as a ZxR. You don't need much in terms of wire.

The cheapest sub I would look at is the Dayton Audio SUB-1200 and then all you will need is two 1/8th to rca cables. Plug them into your sound card and into the speakers and sub and that is it.

im not really on a budget. ive wanted to do this for a long time and im going to get what i need. Will i need to get that sub for these KRK's? In a way i just want the best ha

i want the best possible sound.

Best sound? Well don't say no budget bc this can get expensive fast. Just give me a ballpark dollar amount and I will steer you in the right direction.

haha yea your right. I guess what im saying is that i want 2 KRK 6 inch rokit speakers and the ZXR card. now i just need to know how will i be able to set up the speakers to the card with the best music quality. Because i was hearing that some cables could make the sound different.

Yeah but we are talking about minor differences. Also, at this level, you would not be able to tell the difference bw a decent entry level cable and a $10,000 one.

Select the BJC MSA-1 Miniature Stereo Audio Cable at around 6 to 12 ft length. Also, ask them to split it so that you can plug individual rca males into your speakers. Each speaker gets a separate rca. So it needs to be split wide enough to reach each side of your desk.
 
Sounds great. Ill get 12 feet or even 10 just to be in the safe side. So this is the only thing I need to connect from the KRKs to the ZXR? Thanks a lot for the help!

Yep. That is all. Just remember that the wire has to be split wide enough for one rca to reach each speaker.

Sounds right. I wasn't sure myself. Go with whatever they recommend. Great company and those cables will never wear out.
 
So I could just buy one 1/8 to 2 RCA adapter and a 10 foot lc 1 cable and ill be set?
 
Yup. Just need to connect the speakers to the soundcard. That is all you need besides plugging the speakers into an electrical socket. Might want to get some Auralex MoPAD Monitor Isolation Pads for best results. They help angle the speakers properly and isolate them from vibration. Slight upgrade but there is a sonic improvement over just having them on the desk.

Have a look at this. It will explain the basic method of speaker placement in regards to your position. I have a desktop setup with my speakers behind the desk by about 2 feet. They are on top of two cinder blocks as stands. Very heavy and overkill for most but distance from the speaker is really important.

I got a 5 foot long glass desk and i was planning on getting those pads just for that reason.

I just found these KRK rokit 6 G3's . i only found them on this site and want to know why havent i seen these before?
 
Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I'm in a similar situation. Planning to get the KRK Rokit 5 G3. The G3 are new updated model just released recently, to answer pattyp's question. I currently have Xi-Fi Titanium HD, but I'm rather torn between the ZxR or if I just save some money and get the Zx instead. I could keep my Titanium HD, but my friend is rather keen to buy the card off me.
 
The new creative cards are worth it. Zx sounds pretty good. A bit metallic sounding at times but otherwise fine.

So you think the ZxR is not worth the extra money compared to the Zx? Paired with the KRK rokits at least?

I would rather spend a little mroe just for the best. I dont want a card that sounds pretty good, i want a card that sounds amazing!
 
fwiw, I'm running a similar setup (Rockit 8's) but I have optical outs from my TitaniumHD going into a Behringer 2496 EQ then back out through XLR. Felt this was the best way to get the cleanest output from the pc while still having controls in front of me (in hardware)
 
I haven't heard a ZxR. I can only compare the Zx to the dac in my high end receiver. The receiver is much better via digital for music and movies but for gaming I have to use the Zx analogue for gaming or I lose a lot of directional sound cues.

The ZxR is probably around 10% better sounding than the Zx.

Either sound card should sound amazing to someone who has never heard high end audio.

However, compared to a nice $300-500 dac neither will sound quite as good. Again, a small percentage difference, mainly in terms of noise floor level and if you use tubes to color the sound. Still a noticeable change or improvement but not really necessary.

So if you want better sound for music especially, you can always purchase a separate dac and use the digital out on the ZxR.

Bottom line is that either sound card will sound great with the Rokits.

Like everything in audio, the only limit is your wallet.
 
Yea those specs look nice and it has a classic look to it witch I like but it's 50 bucks more:/
 
hi... so a couple things

1st on the hook up especially if needed 10ft or + cables, if you only have unbalanced outputs on the sound card then use unbalanced cables to the rca inputs on the rokits or you may well wind up with noise floor (static) issues.


2. if you haven't already bought a sound card and you are kinda set on using studio monitors consider the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 or 2i4 while technically a interface makes a fantastic dac especially with studio monitors

I have the G2 8's and they have a nice higher end mid bass that gets the job done. I want the sub but haven't found one on sale yet.

I would be interested in getting a off-brand sub, 10 - 12" as long as it was priced right and the quality / sound was there. I'm open to advice.

Im also getting the soundcard for my games i play. I’m a big fan in high quality sounds in my video games: D would i be fine with getting what i listed above? I’m not planning on doing much with audio besides listening to great music and watch great movies. So all i want are these speakers to be hooked up to my soundcard with the best sound quality possible. Love your set up BTW

I was taking a look at the KRK sub and that thing is a monster but the price is the demon :mad:
