KoTOR

lol, I want to, but I feel bad.... damn video games. That's it, next time I play, it's death to the children!
There is one child you can dispose of in a rather ironic fashion. I'll leave the discovery up to you though.

Man, now I really think I'm gonna play thru on the Dark Side. The evil in me has to get out somehow!

The Dark side is "Hard" to play through if you have a generally "honest" perspective on things.. Its almost frustrating..

KOTOR is one of the BEST games ever. I bought it not realising it was a Turn-Based Game, Thinking it was a 3rd Person Action game.. (Yeah.. I know, no research).. The first fight or two, I was like "WTF?!?!?" Then I got the hang of everything and it became an INSTANT classic and SUPER addictive.

I adored this game. The 2nd one was... odd. Having Mandalorian armor was fun! Like the others, I'll pick up KOTOR2 if they finish it. I hated that they neutered it much like they neutered JK2 with Jedi Academy.

I have the 2nd one but never played it. I'm debating whether to play it after though or if I should buy Jade Empire for PC and give that a go... it's supposed to be pretty good also.

Not to have a Spoiler, but the problem with the 2nd game is that the last 1/3 of the game wasn't finished and most of the story lines have no conclusion, no matter what you do. They start off so strong with the game and then BAM, When you think you are ready to make "groundbreaking" progress in the story It just turns in to a bunch of random battles and the game is over. BLAH!

Up there with Fallout as the best rpgs of all time. I would suggest trying to avoid leveling up until you get to the Jedi academy, the points you save can be spent on Jedi levels instead being wasted on the vanilla class. The story will come together, the twist is amazing.

Absolutley wretched. Spent as little time on the HD as anything I've ever installed.

I reinstalled over the weekend. The game runs like absolute crap on my Vista machine. However it runs perfectly fine on my old XP machine. Is there a patch for that or do I just have to play it on my old machine?

Not that it matters besides switching monitors.

Game runs perfect for me in Vista 64-bit, but I'm using an AMD dual-core with a 7600GT. So I'm not sure if it's your setup or something the game dislikes.

If you have a Creative sound card that uses EAX try and enable that through Alchemy, I think you have to setup your own EAX profile though, pretty easy. Then you should set it to EAX3. It ran crappy for me once too, but I think I had my speakers messed up, I was playing through the headphones and they were set to 7.1 surround sound, and the game was running really choppy.

I am running a Audigy 2 ZS, I will give that a try when I get home.

I played both and thought the second one was good, just not as good as the first. Reading all these postings is making me want to reinstall and play again, after beating both numerous times.

The game was pretty epic until I realized I had spent 16 hours playing it over the span of 2 or 3 days. I was at the precipice of becoming a gamer, but I turned away at the last second.

Yes! Thats what was exactly wrong with KOTOR2. In fact, if you take that mentality a step forward, suddenly the end battle becomes EXTREMELY HILARIOUS.. Just stand back for second and look at what you are literally fighting.

Anyways, I'm a bit leery of KOTOR3. I hope it brings something new to the table, and doesn't play exactly like KOTOR 1 and 2. They were great games and all back when they came out, but hopefully they do something better. Lets also hope they do more live action motion capturing, so the people are a bit more animated when they talk..

I had it for Xbox and i loved it, but my stupid xbox would freeze everytime i played the game. EBgames replaced my xbox 3 times and i still couldnt play it, so i gave up

I own the original Xbox version from back when it first came out (pre-order, wooo!), and it is/was an INCREDIBLE game, easily one of the best I have ever played, which is a LOT. It's definitely in "classic" territory.

I still remember ROFL'ing when I first spoke with one of the specific assault droids... you'll know who it is when you speak with it! I remember the exact thing to this day...

I'll toss in my opinion here.

Great game. Finished it in around 50 hours or so light side. Tried to explore and see everything I could my first time through since I usually don't have time to replay stuff often. I'll probably do this one again though. I want to get the second, but want to wait for the fixing mod. I know it's been mentioned here but is there any real idea when it will be released?

I had a really rough time my first time playing through..

Having never played a D20 RPG like this, I didnt know to add Level's and Attributes to my Initial Character when you start the game.. So I left it Default with NOTHING... made for a rough game.. But very Satisfying..

2nd time Playing through, I explored EVERY single quest and side mission.

The only problem after playing these games is that you can't get back into them too soon, it takes a few months/years before you can play them again. This has been my biggest gripe with RPG games.

I went right into playing the Dark Side.

But yes, once you know the story, you have to distance yourself. That's what you sign up for when you play an RPG.

But it's great coming back to it months or even years later. I'm playing through this game and usually I'm pretty good about remembering games/movies, but I've forgotten almost all of this game, how you meet people, get certain items, etc etc. It's wonderful :D

This is probably the most insightful comment I've seen on this forum. I've always thought the same way, but you kind of put it into a statement that made me reflect on it.

I love getting back into old RPGs and playing as a different character type, but I can't get back into it right away. Strategy games (especially turn-based) are the only ones I can pick up immediately again, but while working on my backlog I've had to move on anyway. :)

Me too. Check the speaker settings and try it with EAX, hopefully that'll fix it.

I still couldn't get it to work. Although in the game it won't let me select EAX. I did update the drivers for my Audigy.

How interesting that you said this, because I've been playing civilization 4 most of the time because of this reason I mentioned :). It offers instant reward and every time you replay it is a different experience.

Another thing that tired me on RPG games is the grinding. No matter if it's single or multi player, that's what most of the game goes about, leveling up and beefing up your character. This applies to all games, KotOR included.

Then stop playing RPGs. Some of us enjoy the challenge of monsters and bosses that are too strong that force us to wander around the map for an hour or two to level up. If you need instant gratification, don't play RPGs.

The grinding applies mainly to MMORPGs. I'm referring to real RPGs. ;)

I know grinding is part of MMORPG's, and I had to do that a bit in some Final Fantasy games, but I haven't had that experience in ALL RPG's, including KOTOR. You do fight groups of enemies more than once... once in a while, but it's always on the way to an objective, and doesn't exactly feel like filler, it's like going across some valley plains and you'd expect it not to be empty.

I like the RPGs where you level up, but I also enjoy the more linear ones like KotOR, which depend more on your choices than on attributes and skills.

You would LOATHE SaGa Frontier. :D

Even more interesting is that RPGs are my favorite genre. :) It's just the immediate-replayability that's different.

Yeah this was one thing that I found strange and yet refreshing at the same time. It was nice not having to bother with tons of random battles and instead it was a measured pace. If you completed all the tasks you were leveling up at the appropriate times to be fully powered up by the endgame. I believe I was maxed out at lvl 20 when I beat it by doing all the side quests and such.

KOTR was a good solid game. I think mixed it up a bit but I was more light than dark and went for light at the end of the game.

I never felt the need to play through again as the darkside primarly because I still think most games make the difference between being evil and good rather facile, more like they difference betweening being good or being a little snarky.

That said I enjoyed Bloodlines and my current game Witcher much more but KOTR is definitely worth playing. On other note, HK-47 was by far the best character in the game.:p

I'm interested in Witcher. The thing about KOTOR is replay value is extremely high. I'd rate this game the best game I've ever played, rated like this:

1. Star WArs KOTOR
2. Half Life
3. Star Craft
4. System Shock (which scared the **** out of me!)
Apples and oranges I know. What got me about KOTOR was 1.I played through purposely as pretty much goody two-shoes Mother Teresa/Jesus/Dalai Lama. I was so good it was sickening.
so when I played through again and chose the Dark Side (copy right Lucas Films.) it was hard to do and in one instance I killed off a character that had been an important team mate from the first time, and I felt something never felt before playing a game: extremely guilty, it was incredible. Aside from that play D.S. is very fun, and the game of course has that great story twist that is right up there with finding out "Luke... I am your father." in Empire Strikes Back. Great game. I hope Mass Effect is similar.

I actually own the game and never really got into it...I'm thinking perhaps because I was expecting a different kind of gameplay.
After reading this thread, I figured I would give it another try...and now it runs very choppy on Vista...

I might try it again at some point (if I get to fix the choppiness), but I am telling you all...the story 'd better be THAT good...because even my 2nd time around (just for a few mins but still...) wasn't all that great either...I hope the game picks up after a little while...

One of the best games of all time in my opinion. For me, I got so sucked into it that it felt almost like I was living inside the Star Wars universe. If both 1 and 2 had been less buggy for me they would have been perfect.

And just an fyi for anyone that liked either SW KoTOR games, Jade Empire Special Edition for PC is those games very close cousin. It's also a freakin awsome game.:D

Why is everyone saying the original KotOR is so much better than part 2?

I'm not speaking from experience, but apparently the second is unfinished and buggy?
