I came across this and thought it was rather curious:

It just so happens to fit my needs perfectly, I want a small LCD screen for browsing music on an HTPC. Since I coudlnt seem to find any rather small screens to mod onto a case, I figured a slightly larger seperate LCD would work nicely, and I think this would do exactly what I want. It would be used solely for browsing through a piece of front end software and choosing music and the like. It wouln't be used for movies or anything. Anyone know if it woudl suite this need nicely?

Yes. I use the same model LCD on my jukebox. The touchscreen works well after calibration. Only VGA looks good, though. What frontend do you use/ plan to use? I am looking for one.

Probably SageTV. It is costly, but looks to be the best.

couple of things

I have it, it does work. touchscreen is pretty cool. check out xlobby, its free and will play mp3s with winamp help and looks pretty nice. check it out first, they have some pretty cool skins and even a relatively easy to use skin editor. I made a lot of the buttons bigger and easier to hit with a finger.

however, its not perfect. you have to rig it up to work with the power supply. mine functions correctly as best i can tell, but both ati and nvidia video cards sometimes ahve a hard time recognizing it. I have this 8" screen and a projector and sometimes both have trouble being recognized because the resolutions are so different. you know how frustrating it is to have to lug a "real" lcd into the room when both won't work, even after rebooting? not fun.

all that said, i got mine for about $130 i think. pretty cheap when most were over $300. i built mine into a case and may still ahve a picture around if you do a search on here. it might have been on avsforum though, not sure.

take care.

that's why I install realVNC on all my boxes. I can just go connect to it from another and fix the res issue.

Found a picture. It looks great, but I am building in an SG-01... no room for that. I may build a custom housing for the lcd though, I just have to exlore my options a bit...

Ok, I'm an idiot. Never thought of that, even though I have remotely anywhere installed on my other computer. ha.

thanks for the tip. its still annoying though, and doesn't make my friends want to get into this if i can't figure it out even.

thanks.

Just some thoughts. If using Windows one can boot on the small screen in vga mode. with one of the function keys, forgot which one. Also, it is possible to set up hot keys to change to specific resolutions/frequencies within your OS(es).

your correct. its supposed to work. the problem i find is that too often it doesn't. one time i hadn't turned it on in several weeks and was too lazy to drag up the other lcd. when i finally did it was a boot issue about changing memory size or something, and i had to hit f1 to continue.... stupid..

pics please ;)
also, are the drivers proprietary or are they hid mouse type ones. oh and i see a stylus in the ebay pics. do you need to use it (like most tablet pcs) or will any pointing device work (eg. finger)

Neat lookin panel. It seems to be the darling of the carputer crowd. I think the drivers are located here:

Just might have to pick one of these up. Who knows what sort of evil purposes it could be put to.
