Don't know how many of you were aware of the KQIX.org project, but Vivendi Universal came in and gave them a cease and disist:

For those who are unaware, a development group called Phoenix Online Studios has been working on a final sequel for the acclaimed Kings Quest series. Unsatisfied with the final game (Mask of Destiny was probably one of the crapiest games ever) a small group of dedicated fans vowed to develop a proper conclusion to this wonderful series. The plan was to release it for free to try and avoid backlash. They even had a blessing from the original creator Roberta Williams!

Alas, Vivendi swooped in 1 month before the expected release of the first chapter, and the project is now dead. Check out their site to see how much they had gotten done www.kqix.com

Being in my mid-twenties The Kings Quest series was one of the main reasons I got interested in computers in the late 80's. If it wasn't for KQ I wouldn't be in the computer industry now. I am sure there are a number of sad fans out there just like me.

I didn't know about it...I'd say it was something that should have been expected, but it is no less sad for it. KQ 6 will always be one of my favorite games. It was a good series. I miss adventure games :(

king's quest was an awesome series, but it was so easy to die! it seemed like almost every clickable item in the environment would kill you, and then there were really stupid puzzle solutions that would fuck you over if you missed one little thing. did sierra really hate us that much? even lucasarts made fun of the king's quest series in monkey island.

Vivindi stinks. I hate it when game companies are so selfish with things that they will never use.

The main character looks way too old to be running around in clothes like that.

This isn't related to the Kings Quest game that was on the PS1 is it?

Cause that game was kinda dark from what I remember..

Why don't they go underground and release it somehow?
I still want to play it... KQ games (well, adventure games in general) are still my favourite genre.
