Killed A PSU???

Okay think I've done a real NOOB here and killed my psu. On DCv3.5 had everything hooked up to do the leak test and used the "jumper" provided to bypass the mobo. Had an initial major leak (didn't seat on of the tubes all the way) which side tracked me for a bit. After cleaning it up I started all over again with no leaks. However did notice a big air bubble in the GPU cooler so was doing the usual move it around bit to get rid of it. Then everything died. Even after I hooked the PSU main power cable to the mobo all I would get is a momentary start of the fans then nothing.

Out of curiousity I hooked up an old PSU to just the WC pump with the jumper and it runs, sooooooooo????????

Think I remember some where that if you run the PSU without the mobo hooked up you can ruin it. Is this what I appearently have done?

Okay had someone suggest I unplug and let it sit (already pulled it out of the system!) and then try it with just a HDD to see what happens.

His suggestion to just try and power a HDD intreged me, so............
1. Didn't have a spare HDD so said what the heck, plugged in a 120mm fan and up she spun!
2. Okay lets try the one cable that powers all the system fans = 2 x 80, 3 x 40(dominator cooler), 1 x hdd cooler (2 x 40), & 1 x 60. Sure enough they all spun up.
3. Then let's try the Aqua Computer cooling system, 1 x pump and 2 x 120 fans. The pump ran and the fan moved. Then I noticed I had forgotten to unhook the fan cable but not to worry the fans are up and running also.
4. Cool it must have reset so hooked everything back up (GPU, HDD & optical drive, and mobo). Click......back to where I started.

Would assume something in the PSU will not take the full load.

Are you sure you hooked up everything?
What PSU are you talking?
Specs of the system?

Everything was hooked up and "running" with the motherboard bypass jumper.

The system specs are in my sig under DreamCatcher

Now I can't get it to power anything......:(

OK, so your Dreamcatcher system, the actual PC itself, not the water cooling part, does not power on with that Enermax PSU?

And by anything, you mean fans, WC setup, HDDs, PCs, etc?

Okay over 6 hours ago I tried the one at a time thing, and desided to try one more time........so I

1. hook 120mm fan > it runs
2. hook up a the fans in the case > they run
3. hook up the pump & fans in water cooling system > they run
4. hook up HDD & optical drive > they appear to be functioning
5. hook up 2, 3, & 4 together > everything seems to be running
6. hook the 4-pin connector to mobo with 5 > everything dies

Take said power supply and hook up to what I can in BHrDx

1. 4-pin connected to mobo
2. power connector connected to mobo
3. manage to hook up one of the molex cables from supply to power 2 of the three HDDs. Can't power the case fans or optical drive as that would require too much disassembly.
4. Was able to power up the system, load windows, and even run a 10 minute run of Prime before it started to get too warm.

What does this sound like????? Something like maybe my non-conductive coolent fried something on the mobo?? I may not have dried it out as well as I thought?? When I was moving the case around to work on the air bubble some fluid did something??

SO many questions and no simple tests. But to me it appears the board may be shot.

Thoughts.......

Sounds like the mobo is a goner.

Pulled the system apart, turned the mobo over and found.........

Kinda looks like electical short type of "marks", what do you think? :(

Open Box from Jan or Feb! :( So that's out of the question....... did pull the trigger on a TA760 M2+ though for only 60 shipped. The only major diff being HD3000 (760) vs. HD3200 (780).

Check to see if manufacturer warranty still covers that open-box mobo.

It would seem I’m 14 days late for the egg’s open box policy…..
