I recently purchased a Corsair Force 3 60 gb SSD to run my OS on and was going to use my 2 1 TB HDDs for my data. After researching more I wanted to get a better and bigger drive so I decided to purchase the Corsair Force GT 120 gb. My question is should I keep the Force 3 and use it for my HDD cache using SRT or sell it to a friend or return it? I read mix reviews on using SRT and that there is not much improvement when already running a separate SSD with your OS for the cost. What are your thoughts? Thanks for the advice.
 
personally, I'd ditch the corsair force 3 drive. you can probably sell it for $100/return it minus the 15% and instead pickup a c300 drive/m4 drive. the force 3 uses async bad nand, and the c300/m4 will just be better overall for the exact same price you picked up your force 3 (or less),

my personal thoughts are you don't need the second drive. the RST cache will really not help at all for your hard drives, and if they're not raided, you would actually need two drives, one for each of them (for what really comes down to no performance gain).

that said, if your friend is looking for a drive, swap the force 3 for a c300 or m4, and sell him that instead. your setup of a solo 120gb for os and 2tb for data will work fine, you won't need a second drive.

make sure you image your 120gb drive so you can backup if it ever fails and you have to rma.
 
I ended up tossing my smaller\older ssd into my laptop, was amazing! but if you dont have a secondary machine you use then i agree with gjs, you don't need it.

sidenote c300/m4 drives are great, use an m4 myself and couldnt be happier

gjs278 has got it....get rid of the Force3 drive and put the money back in your pocket.
 
Thanks for the help, I was leaning towards getting rid of it but wanted to be sure.

I was reading that you should set the SSD to AHCI in the bios for best results but what can I do to still use my 2 tb HDD as raid 0 for my data? Will the SSD perform just as good including TRIM if the bios is set to raid? I have a Asus z68 btw...appreciate the help.

putting your controller into raid mode is essentially ahci. it just adds on the capability to do raid in the intel controller. someone can probably verify or deny this.

I would definitely keep the controller in raid mode for now though, there's nothing to worry about when you're in raid. I think it will treat your solo drive exactly like ahci.
