No.. .Not a race... but it's time we don't forget the other half of the "team."

I challenge you to install (and keep running) at least one box with UD if you are a F@H'r right now. Now that our team is number ONE in one project... Don't you think we should be closer in the second?

My personal opinion is that we get a more comanding lead in FAH before we start moving logs to the other fire. Summer will be upon us before we know it and I want the ducky to stay put for a good long time. :)

Thats what we have been saying for the past year while UD gets mostly left in the dark ;)

One computer won't hurt per person... and gives people more incentive to go borg more computers....

Wow...so we have a pretty diehard UD'er (Moose) telling us we should stay with FAH for the time being, while a diehard FAH'er (K*) is telling us to shift one box to UD.

Solution: For the time being, move a slow FAH box (prob. running timeless) to UD, keep building our lead with the good stuff in FAH for now, and after we start commanding more of a lead, feel free to switch over something bigger.

Eh, Moose jumps on both sides of the fence, and has UD running since he can't get F@H to work on his work computers s'all good, its for the cure! :)

Sheeze I know it is a competition for being #1 on Fah, but gosh I believe some of us has forgotten the progress that Fah had done and what can be accomplished from it in the future.

Now I know why Relic left, I haven't seen the light of it till just now. He left because it was turning into a Competition fest here in the dc forums for who will be #1 not what could or can be cured by folding.

I have looked myself in the mirror and saw a bad side in which I do not want to go down. I must say several people on this team need also to look in the mirrors to see what may become of this team.

Yah it maybe great being #1, but when a team looses thought that got to #1 that being what Folding at home is known for, this team may head somewhere besides up.

Sorry I have put it this way, but if you look around lately it has become that way via in attitudes or way you do things. Also I will be away from folding lately, have to turn off computers because of the high electricity bill.

For some, the team, the competition, the stats, are all that keep people in the game. So if we need to keep using that, we will. To gain the extra thought that all of that combined also goes to helping to find the cure, then its all icing on the cake.

Not to mention, thinking about things like competition is alot easier then thinking about people we have lost every single day. While they are never far FROM our thoughts, constant thought on death and disease would make anyone run to a shrink for depression...

Both projects are worthy and deserve support. But fact are facts, and we place better in FAH and the competition is fierce there.

<takes mod cap off> I take issue with several of these statements.

Firstly, you have no idea why Steve left. That was/is his personal decision. Whatever the reasons, they are his own. Do not presume to know why any of us do anything.

Secondly, Some are here for competition and some are here for the cure. Some both. As you may or may not know, I have a friend fighting cancer right now. I have lost people to cancer, friends and family alike. It is insulting for you to come in here and make these statements. Bad form. Competition makes this thing spin. It does not mean that any of us have lost sight of the cure. The cure is the goal, competition is the fuel to get there. Facts that all of us have to deal with. If this was not the case, then Stanford would not award points. It is a fundamental fact of human nature that competition keeps interest.

Thirdly, whatever you see in ther mirror is your problem. Not mine. It is not fair to automatically assume that others are here for the wrong reason. Nor is it fair.

I am sorry that you question the direction of this team. Perhaps you'd prefer it the way it was last year...no leadership, no direction, infighting?<mod cap back on>

I know that you have been on this team just as long as I have. I have never questioned your reasons or your drive for being here. Don't question mine.

^^ Well put. The competition aspect is all in fun and games. If thats what it takes to get people to help find the cure, then so be it. If you want to be here to compete and show off your awesome computer, great. As long as you're helping out. If you really want to help and all you have is a p3 in your basement, cool. We'll welcome you.

I have to agree with Moose here, not just because he is a fellow mod, but also because I feel the exact same way. While motivations are different for why we're all involved, there is no reason to criticize why someone is participating. The fact is, every one of us is here, doing what we can, be it borging an entire lab of PC's for a run off, to throwing together every P3 and Duron we can find just because we know it will help the science.

In the end, it all helps, it all goes toward the same purpose. The goals in the end of each project are the same, the methods differ, but both are worthy. Why we're here isn't important, its what we're helping to achieve.

To the end of the beast, no matter the means....

I think you people should stop playing WOW and other video games and use those computers less. Load up FF with one tab so you can look into Hardforum and thats it... These comps are not meant to be used to play games and do work sshhh...

You forgot something. People are allowed to have mIRC running too. I definitely agree about WoW and games and stuffl My challenge would be for everyone to quit playing games for one month and then look at all the extra production you have done. I know it made a big difference when I stopped playing them many months ago. :p

Yeah, we need to get more people into the IRC. Its usually pretty dead in there.

Well said my friend. The real reason I do this, and I don't share this very often, if ever...Celie almost lost her life to cancer and has lost her ability to have children. She would probably kill me if she knew I posted this, but there is the truth. The reason I work so furiously to promote this project as one of its spokesman is because I believe in it, and all the people who work so hard to keep it successful.

Have I used the competition aspect to promote the cause? Yes I have, many times. I did it and will continue to do so because I firmly believe it helps people get on board.

I was so excited when we took first, I can't even begin to explain it. The reason I was is simple. Since I joined this team 5 monthes ago, everyone really banded together, and worked as a team, and through all of the work, we got it done, and took first, and made that many more points for the cause.

Make no mistake, the guys that work hard around here, do it for the cause. How we get the points makes no difference to me, as long as we are doing it by the rules, does it really matter if someone joins for the cause, or to help the competition?

We aren't allowed to speak of that here. It's been stated by the bossman himself and we follow that. Sure, thinly veiled hints pop up every now and then but that's all we do.

And no, it's not a super secret thing either. There is a link and directions on hardfolding which is how I found my way there. Much to everyone's dismay of course. :D

oh yeah. I remember learning about that before.. just forgot.

What The Fuck.

Ok, this counts as your one and only drama thread per front forum thread.

I've got to get back to work, but does it really matter why people fold? It's kinda, in my eyes, one of the few things in live that no matter what the reason behind the doing, the result is all good--- another done for FAH/UD.

Sure, place fills up with poitn whores it's gonna get kinda old around here.

Sure, place fills up with bleeding hearts and this WU will save all man mankind it's gonna get kinda old around here.

Can the two coexist? Fold for love, fold for points, fold to fold.

And 2x What The Fuck- who the hell is these leaders spoken of and where are they so I can kick them in the head!

Marty has spoken! All hail!

I'm more or less with him; fold for one project, or fold for the other, or both. I'm UDing on one box now, just so when the FAH servers go down (again  ) I'll still be folding something.

I'm not in this for the competition, I'm in it for the team spirit and the science. This kind of thread, IMO, helps neither of those. FAH is the more popular project because we're in first, and we're in first because FAH is more popular. As regrettable as this state of affairs is, I don't see it changing any time soon. Work on your chosen project(s), and congradulate the other team on their success. Stop with the drama.

Well I might as well lock it before it turns into more drama... which none of us want right now

Like marty said. FOLD to FOLD.

Its not about the why, its the fact that we are, and as mage said, its about the team.
UD is part of our team so lets not forget them. They have been working their asses off too.

Like Poddo said in our other thread. The next time you borg a computer, consider UD.
Thats all I ask.

We aren't going to run from our number 1 F@H spot. But how [H]ard would it be if we could say we rank number one in both the projects we run?
